The Courts and Community Justice Division has an exciting career opportunity for an accountable, responsible, professional as Deputy Local Registrar, Court of King's Bench. We are seeking an exceptional candidate to be part of our team in the Battleford Local Registrar's office, who will be committed to the pursuit of excellence.
As Deputy Local Registrar, you will be responsible for:
- Upholding the dignity of the court by providing support and assistance to the Court of King's Bench Justices;
- Assisting the legal profession, legal secretaries, court runners and the general public when working in the Registry Office;
- Receiving, processing and registering legal documents for legal cases such as family, civil, criminal and estate litigations and ensuring all documentation complies with the Rules of Court for Saskatchewan, various federal and provincial Statutes and the Canadian Criminal Code;
- Determining and collecting the correct fees for filing court documents;
- Convening and adjourning court and maintaining accurate court records, marking exhibits, swearing in witnesses and operating digital recording equipment;
- Preparing documents such as exhibit lists, digital log notes, and judicial orders and decisions;
- In criminal matters, you will arraign the accused, take pleas and impanel the jury;
- Accurately recording judicial decisions and responding to questions related to fiats, using shorthand or speed writing;
- Following the court, you will prepare, approve and distribute a variety of post-court documents, ensuring legislative compliance; and
- Providing assistance to clients and information in response to general inquiries.
Our candidate of choice will have the following:
- Knowledge of the justice system as it pertains to the various levels of court, legal terminology, Acts, Regulations, policies, protocols and court procedures as they apply to the Court of King's Bench;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
- Exceptional organizational skills to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment;
- Thorough, analytical and accurate with the ability to pay close attention to detail as accuracy is paramount in this position;
- Discrete with confidential information;
- Culturally aware in order to respectfully assist clients and colleagues of various cultures;
- The ability to retrieve files and carry heavy boxes that contain files and documents; and
- Travel as required.
Typically, the successful candidate in this competition will have developed their knowledge and skills through a related diploma/degree such as a Human Justice Degree, Police studies, paralegal course and have experience in a court/legal environment or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
The successful candidate must demonstrate good character in order to maintain the integrity of the justice system and the people it serves and ensure confidentiality within and outside the workplace in accordance with your Oath of Office.
