Who Are You?

Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, the Mechanical Engineering Technologist is a detail-oriented and hands-on professional responsible for supporting the design, development, and production of heavy equipment attachments. You are someone who thrives on solving complex mechanical challenges, enjoys collaborating with cross-functional teams, and takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality engineering solutions.

You bring a balance of technical knowledge, creativity, and practical understanding of manufacturing processes. You are motivated by continuous learning, driven by results, and passionate about contributing to a culture of safety, quality, and innovation.

What Will You Do?

Key Responsibilities

1. Engineering

  • Issuing design projects 
  • Designing or providing details on designs 
  • Conducting engineering analysis 
  • Conducting finite element analysis to create reports or initiate design development
  • Making independent studies, analyses, interpretations and conclusions
  • Collecting measurements and other data as required

 2. Compliance

  • Adhering to prescribed testing analysis, design or computation methods
  • Complying with Company safety regulations, policies and procedures
  • Conforming to established practices and standards 

 3. Teamwork

  • Supporting other functional areas
  • Giving technical guidance to the engineering group 
  • Collaborating with co-workers to achieve anticipated project goals
  • Providing services to internal and external clients

 4. Continuous Learning

  • Contributing well-thought-out ideas and opinions in meetings and work groups
  • Using good judgment, critical thinking skills and deductive reasoning to work through assignments
  • Researching and reading on a continuous basis to learn new skills and engineering techniques, concepts or procedures 
  • Participating and/or attending industry associations meetings, seminars, workshops and conferences

 5. Safety

  • Follow company's safety procedures, including PPE requirements
  • Complies to all safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Promotes workplace safety and creates a safe and secure work environment to ensure there is no danger to themselves or others

Sound Familiar?

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution
  • Eligible for registration with the applicable professional association 
  • Minimum 2 years experience in manufacturing or similar environment
  • Lean/5S training an asset

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of industry standards (ISO, ASME) considered an asset
  • 5 years of experience, preferably in heavy equipment environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for steel fabrication
  • Broad theoretical and practical engineering knowledge
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), Microsoft Office Suite, and related applications
  • Knowledge of engineering practices, principles, and applicable regulations
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong report writing and documentation abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Time management and organizational skills to meet deadlines
  • Ability to mentor, guide, and support team members
  • Capable of independent work and cross-functional collaboration
  • Flexible, adaptable, and committed to continuous improvement
  • Safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and results-driven
  • Ethical and professional approach to engineering design and decision-making
