Summary:

The student recruitment and success coordinator plays a critical role in the drive to improve the academic success, recruitment, retention, and overall quality of the student experience for business students at the Prince Albert campus, with a primary focus on Indigenous student success. The coordinator supports students' unique needs and aspirations, encourages community building on campus, and contributes to the creation of a culture of belonging and connection.

Key responsibilities include mentoring students, supporting student recruitment activities, and supporting the organization and delivery of community building events and initiatives. Engaging meaningfully with Indigenous communities and stakeholders in the Prince Albert area and Northern Saskatchewan, the coordinator builds and nurtures relationships that positively support and enhance prospective and current students' educational pursuits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the coordination of targeted Indigenous recruitment and community recruitment plans, activities, and initiatives, in Prince Albert and Northern Saskatchewan.
  • Coordinates and participates in school and community visits, career and education fairs, campus tours, and stakeholder familiarity visits.
  • Mentors students to support their plans for academic success, following up periodically to assess progress towards achieving their goals and navigating post-secondary education
  • Assists in identifying Indigenous students' interests and needs, through one-on-one discussions, surveys, sharing circles, and other methods and seeks student input on current and proposed initiatives, supports, and programming
  • Supports the delivery of community building initiatives such as student activities, workshops, and events, that contribute to a welcoming and safe community where students feel a sense of belonging and are supported
  • Supports engagement with students and various internal and external stakeholders to co-create and develop initiatives and implementation plans that contribute to student success, such as networking, mentorship, and skill building opportunities
  • Supports the delivery of social, cultural, and academic resources through various programs, services, and events
  • Provides input and feedback towards initiatives and programs related to Indigenous student success
  • Assists in organizing cultural, artistic, and scholarly presentations, performances, and events and represents the college at various community events
  • Serves as the point of contact at the Prince Albert campus, triaging requests and inquiries, and initiating referrals as needed to college and university support services
  • Assists in building positive and respectful relationships with Indigenous leaders, community members, and Elders
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment
  • Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others, and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement
  • Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a post-secondary certificate is required; a diploma or bachelor's degree is preferred. A business-related program would be considered an asset
  • A valid Class 5 Saskatchewan driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Minimum of three years of related experience working with and supporting diverse groups of organizations and peoples, particularly Indigenous students and communities
  • Familiarity and experience with student centered programming, support services, and student life on campus
  • Experience within a post-secondary environment is preferred
  • Familiarity with Indigenous cultures and community ceremonies, traditions, and protocols would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of and connection to Indigenous communities of the province of Saskatchewan is preferred
  • Knowledge of outreach and engagement of higher education with diverse communities
  • Ability to initiate and implement activities independently and be self-motivated
  • Excellent intercultural, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse communities, cultures, and perspectives, and diverse professional, educational, and organizational backgrounds
  • Understands the importance of building strong and caring relationships with Indigenous communities
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office applications (specifically Word, Outlook, and Excel)
  • Ability to utilize on-line platforms for meetings, events, and communications (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom)
