Mental Wellness Clinical Lead

The Tŝilhqot'in National Government is based in Williams Lake, British Columbia serving six communities, including ʔEsdilagh, Tl'etinqox, Tl'esqox, Tŝideldel, Xeni Gwet'in, and Yuneŝit'in. The Tŝilhqot'in National Government's mission is to support and empower Tŝilhqot'in peoples to exercise their rights to self-determination within their traditional territories in ways which reflect Tŝilhqot'in philosophy, values, experience and culture.

The Mental Wellness Clinical Lead will oversee the Mental Wellness Team of Registered Clinicians that currently work in the 6 Tŝilhqot'in communities as well as further develop the team to include wrap around services in each community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use clinical experience to work within the Tŝilhqot'in communities
  • Liaise, participate in and implement all Tŝilhqot'in expectations for Mental Health
  • Attend regional meetings and share information with board stakeholders
  • Submit reports as required throughout the year on initiatives and findings
  • Provide board-wide direction in Mental Health and wellness promotion, education, initiatives, resources, policies, and procedures
  • Demonstrate leadership in the development and delivery of capacity-building learning opportunities focused on addressing the nations mental health needs
  • Provide support and guidance regarding the implementation of social/emotional or well being programming
  • Establish effective partnership/protocol processes and service delivery in alignment with
  • policy and procedure
  • Plan, manage and monitor budgetary expenses with regard to Mental Health

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or Clinical Counselling/ Clinical Psychology from an accredited university
  • Specialized in Trauma Therapy modalities
  • Cultural Competency
  • Be registered and in good standing with a licensed mental health professional body (BCACC, CCPA, etc.)
  • Minimum of ten years of experience in a direct care capacity including a minimum of three years' experience working directly with Aboriginal Clients/communities
  • Relevant education, training, experience with First Nations communities
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills; both oral and written
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff and others at all organizational levels both internally and externally
  • An exceptional knowledge of local, regional and provincial resources
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, an understanding of First Nations cultural humility and safety protocols in work situations
  • Knowledge of concepts, principles and theories of trans‐cultural counselling, including traditional, homeopathic or other healing practices used in the community
  • Knowledge of First Nations cultures and backgrounds
  • Knowledge of mental health models and concepts, namely Indigenous traditional and holistic modalities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral, social, emotional and mental health/psychiatric problems in First Nation communities
  • Broad knowledge of mental wellness system and barriers to service for First Nations
  • Demonstrated ability to provide consultation, leadership and work direction
  • Knowledge of relevant Mental Health acts in BC

Working Conditions

  • Travel will be required
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and additional hardware
  • Overtime as required
  • Lifting or moving up to 25lbs may be required
