The Opportunity
A Field Service Engineer spends most of their time in the field or at a customer site where they help troubleshoot equipment problems. Field Service Engineers have specific training in the equipment they maintain, which requires sound knowledge of the system, wiring, and sensing technology of a system. We are looking for candidates who are self-starters, work independently most of the time, adhere to schedules, follow company processes, manage customer expectations, and are able to quickly repair/troubleshoot system problems in the field.
Location: Must be based in Southern Ontario
You will make an impact by…
- Completing field start-up and commissioning support for either standard products or advanced products, while striving to learn both product lines.
- Assisting customers, both internal and external, in isolating defects in the field.
- Performing Preventative Maintenance tasks according to contract and Service Level Agreement (SLA).
- Generating and supporting all technical documentation including trip reports, training documentation as needed, and reviewing product manuals.
- Conducting technical training classes for standard products to internal and external customers.
- Developing customer relationships to help improve customer satisfaction.
- Becoming familiar with Transport Canada airport policies, procedures, and products.
- Becoming familiar with airport/airline operations in Canada.
- Communicating and promoting the company image to the customer during system installation and training.
The talent we want to inspire has…
- Certification as an Airfield Electrician or Construction Maintenance Electrician, or equivalent experience.
- Two (2) to four (4) years of related experience or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Two (2) to four (4) years of experience working as a field technician or in a related role.
- Possession of a valid Canadian driver's license.
- Must maintain an insurable driving record.
- Must pass any required Canadian background checks.
- Fluent English (oral and written communication skills); French language skills are an asset.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code, safety standards, and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues under pressure.
- Proficient with the use of electrical testing equipment and hand/power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn specialized software for equipment monitoring and reporting.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills for customer interaction, training, and documentation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally, sometimes for extended periods.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, with a willingness to stay current on new technologies and procedures.
Additional Key Information…
National and occasional international travel at a minimum of 60-80% of the time. Travel periods may exceed 7 days at a time.
