About Us

The one-year course-based Master of Science in Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences (IMS) provides students with the skills necessary to integrate, collaborate, and disseminateknowledge and practices related to the fields of research at the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. You will receive mentorship and training from faculty with diverse expertise in a wide range of medical sciences including anatomy and cell biology, biochemistry, epidemiology and biostatistics, medical biophysics, microbiology and immunology, pathology and laboratory medicine, and physiology and pharmacology.

Course Information

This course will simulate a policy-focused work environment where students learn the foundational principles of Canadian science policy and government regulation. Students will work in "policy teams" to tackle a major health-related policy issue and gain an awareness of career opportunities in the field. Students will work through the steps a federal policy team would take to solve a national health-related problem including: 1. Identification of the issue and a setting a national vision; 2. Identification of the challenges / barriers facing the realization of the national vision through data collection, environmental scanning, and conducting both a literature review and consultations; 3. Development of potential solutions to address identified barriers using governmental levers; and 4. The implementation of these solutions /policy initiatives.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.

Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant discipline (or be close to completion) and a demonstrated record of high performance and expertise teaching at the university-level the specific subject area of any course for which they apply. Preference will be given to experience in teaching or researching in the specific subject area of the course applied for.

Course offerings could be assigned to the workload of full-time faculty or to part-time faculty with seniority or preference rights in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, or left unfilled based on operational/enrolment requirements. All positions are subject to budget approval.
