PURPOSE:

The purpose of the Deaf Blind Intervenor position is to assist with the delivery of academic, social physical, emotional, and behavioural programs for an individual student who is deaf and/or blind.
MAIN RESPONSABILITIES:
- Implements an individualized program to establish language concept development, providing one-on-one support as eyes and ears for students and acting as translator, facilitator, and interpreter, utilizing the total communication approach.
- Provides activities/strategies for stimulate residual hearing and vision addressing sensory integration and changes in functional levels, introducing a variety of sensory stimulants and providing training in the same.
- Conducts Life Skills outings.
- Provides resource services to school and Board staff on issues relates to the needs of a deaf/blind student.
- May provide input towards the student's IEP and report card attending team meetings, charting progress, and maintaining effective communication with professionals involved, as well as family.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the school principal and teacher.
Supervision: This position does not supervise.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent plus two (2) year College diploma.
- Six (6) months to one (1) year recent experience.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Advanced American Sign Language and Braille.
- A commitment to service excellence.
EFFORT AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- School environment.

- Moderate attention to detail, concentration and observation.
- Some dealing with difficult people
EXPECTED COMPETENCIES:

- Manages time and prioritizes tasks to ensure that deadlines are met.
• Works with an aim to support the system in attaining goals set out in the Board Action Plan.
