Know our team
Nutrition International's Programs Unit is responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of Nutrition International's core program interventions including program development, design, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting, and grant management, including setting annual operational planning, budgeting, and review processes. The unit comprises a global team of professionals located in our 10 core countries across Asia, Africa and our headquarters in Ottawa, Canada. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Global Portfolio Manager, Child Survival to be based in Ottawa, ON. This is a 12-month maternity leave cover contract from April 6, 2026, to April 5, 2027.
About you
You are someone with a minimum of 7 years' experience in project management. PMP certification will be an asset. Previous experience working on child survival programming is highly valued for this position. You have above average ability in Excel and able to make sense of complex spreadsheets that support the development of better data management and program monitoring.
You have superior written and spoken English and French and are able to work with a team to put together complex documents that clearly articulate NI's work. You have experience working within a matrixed team structure, are politically astute and able to work cross-culturally in a global team.
Fluency in English is required. French is a strong asset.
About the role
In this role you will:
· Work with Corporate Services and Program Operations colleagues to assess, review and improve partnerships and contracting modalities, including processes, tools and ways of working to make improvements that drive program quality and/or cost savings.
· Monitor and track key contract deliverables and facilitate communication with implementing partners for compliance to agreed contract arrangements.
· Carry out monitoring to ensure projects are on track to meet corporate and grant performance targets (program and finance) and take corrective action in a timely way.
· Support and provide capacity building to project teams when and where required on project cycle management processes and tools.
· Closely monitor budget variances and provide updates and annotated finance reports as needed by the donor and internally.
· Alert the Child Survival Senior Leadership Team of expected over- or under-spends at contract and project level to inform the reallocation of funds across budget lines and between countries/interventions as needed (and allowed by the donor) to ensure the most effective use of funds and best possible impact.
· Lead on coordinating reporting processes for the Child Survival portfolio team, working closely with the global, regional and country teams, along with the Monitoring, Data and Learning sub-unit.
· Together with the Child Survival Leadership Team, lead the planning and execution of key events (i.e. Global Retreats, conference attendance, advocacy engagement opportunities) for the Child Survival portfolio.
· Together with the Sr GPD Child Survival, plan and execute operating models in non-core countries.
· Lead on coordinating proposal development processes for the Child Survival portfolio, working closely with the global, regional and country teams, along with the Business Development sub-unit.
· Contributes to the development, implementation and monitoring of portfolio level strategy.
· Analyze evidence to best inform the Child Survival strategies, and ultimately our program approach and ambitions.
The position will require regular travel to countries in Nutrition International's program countries in Asia and Africa, no more than 40 days/year.
