Job Title: ControllerJob Description

The Controller - Restaurants will provide insightful and timely financial reporting and analysis to support decision-making by senior leaders. This role is pivotal in progressing the company towards comprehensive corporate accounting and business support, ensuring the right financial information is delivered to the right people at the right time. Emphasizing financial reporting, the Controller will offer financial support to the Restaurant division business leaders and report to the Director of Management Accounting.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the restaurant accounting division spanning across 8 brands and over 180 restaurant locations.
  • Oversee period-end and year-end closings, producing accurate financial reports promptly.
  • Prepare monthly profit and loss statements and various other reports to support operations.
  • Ensure timely balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with inter-department stakeholders (FP&A, Payroll, Tax, AP, and Treasury) for month, quarter, and year-end close activities.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with the business to promote synergies.
  • Understand stakeholder expectations and leverage accounting resources to meet those expectations.
  • Manage the year-end process, including coordination with external accounting firms for financial statement audits.
  • Investigate and resolve audit findings, account discrepancies, and non-compliance issues.
  • Review and ensure timely filing and remittance of all relevant indirect taxes for assigned legal entities.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within the new ERP, focusing on process automation.
  • Develop and support a team of 3, ensuring clearly defined roles and responsibilities.
Essential Skills
  • 3+ years as a manager in a medium-to-large organization with operational accounting experience.
  • CPA designation or equivalent (ACCA or ACA).
  • Strong foundation in intercompany transactions and complex reconciliations.
  • Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF, XLOOKUP).
  • Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Experience managing multiple entities in a complex structure.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing a team of at least 3.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Background in the restaurant or hospitality industry.
  • Mix of public practice and industry experience.
  • ERP experience (MS Dynamics 365).
  • Working knowledge of GAAP or ASPE.
  • Positive, team-oriented, and collaborative.
  • Flexible and proactive in problem-solving.
  • Candid and comfortable giving feedback.
  • High emotional intelligence for navigating senior stakeholder interactions.
  • Action-oriented and solution-focused.
  • Strong relationship-building skills across departments.

The role offers a hybrid work environment with 4 days in the office and 1 day remote (full-time in office for the first month). The workspace is open and collaborative, fostering close collaboration with three other controllers.
