Grocery Clerk

Position Overview:

The Grocery Clerk plays an essential role in supporting the daily operations of the Grocery Department. This position contributes directly to Amaranth's mission of providing an outstanding experience every day by ensuring our shelves are stocked and organized, products are fresh and accurately labeled, and customers receive friendly, attentive service.

Priority Accountabilities:

These are the outcomes the team member is accountable for, as outlined in the accountability chart. These outcomes include, but are not limited to:

● Customer Service: Deliver friendly, helpful, and proactive customer service. Respond to questions, assist with product location, and connect customers with department experts as needed.

● Shelves Full and Organized: Ensure shelves, coolers, and freezers are stocked, faced, and clean. Maintain accurate pricing and tidy overstock areas.

● Quality Control: Follow best practices for rotation (FIFO), check product dates, and manage damaged or mis-shipped products promptly.

● Build Trust: Uphold store standards, demonstrate reliability, and maintain clear communication with team members, vendors, and customers.

Secondary Accountabilities:

These accountabilities support the effective completion of the Priority Accountabilities:

● Support other departments during peak times (e.g. receiving, stocking).

● Maintain store cleanliness, including mopping, sweeping, and general tidying.

● Assist with POS operations and customer transactions as needed.

● Participate actively in training, meetings, and cross-department support.

Tactical Responsibilities:

These are the processes that the team member is responsible for executing:

● Receive, verify, and process incoming shipments accurately.

● Stock, down-stock, and rotate product with attention to detail and quality standards.

● Manage back stock proactively and maintain organized storage.

● Handle special orders and credits in a timely, professional manner.

● Process transfers between locations accurately and promptly.

● Maintain awareness of current promotions and communicate these to customers.

Qualifications and Attributes:

● Excellent communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude.

● Ability to follow procedures and work independently or collaboratively.

● Intermediate computer skills, including database operation, are an asset

● Familiarity with natural and organic food products is an asset.

● Food Handling Safety certification is an asset.

Time Requirements:

● Full-time or part-time hourly position.

● Flexible working availability, including days, evenings, weekends, and shift coverage as needed.

● Entitled to a 30-minute unpaid meal break for shifts longer than 5 consecutive hours.

Basic Physical Requirements:

● Stand for extended periods of time.

● Walk, bend, twist, reach above and below shoulders.

● Use mops, brooms, cleaning supplies, carts, pallet jack, computers, and printers.

● Use ladders up to 12 feet in height.

● This role may include lifting items up to 50 lbs. Teamwork and tools, such as carts, are available to support these tasks.

● Exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, freezers, outdoors).
