Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. About The Team
The Risk Foundations team is responsible for helping design the systems and processes that enable Stripe to manage merchant Credit risk accurately and at scale. We partner closely with Stripe's Engineering, Data Science, Product, and Operations teams to evolve and up-level our end-to-end ecosystem of credit risk management tooling and capabilities. The team is composed of data-driven systems-thinkers, strategists, and curious problem solvers who are passionate about solving complexity at scale. If you are excited to shape the infrastructure that powers safe, sustainable growth for millions of businesses, we encourage you to apply

What you'll do

Stripe handles billions of dollars every year for businesses around the world, and the Risk team plays a critical role in the company's financial and partnership success. As a Strategist on the Risk Foundations team, you will help manage a rapidly growing merchant portfolio by guiding Stripe's credit strategy and devising growth-friendly solutions that reduce overall credit risk. This is a high impact role that involves cross-functional partnership with Data Science, Engineering, Product, and Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Support the credit risk management efforts on a portfolio of millions of new and existing small to enterprise-sized businesses
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Data Science to develop an LLM agent driven system for automating decisioning workflows, augmenting investigations, generating explainable insights, and enabling data retrieval and synthesis across internal and external sources
  • Leverage your analytical skills to provide credit risk recommendations, deliver insights, and support strategic business decisions
  • Refine tools and processes to help the group deliver on key performance indicators
  • Analyze account activity and monitor portfolio trends to identify opportunities for Stripe to reduce potential credit losses
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scale tailored credit risk management techniques across different geographies, industries, and business models
  • Help drive a risk-centric approach to innovating Stripe's products and infrastructure
  • Challenge the payments industry status quo to help enable innovative businesses to flourish online

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum Requirements

  • 6+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong technical expertise, including intermediate SQL skills and direct experience in applying these skills to provide insights and drive recommendations
  • Self-starter who can work independently and can proactively identify gaps, create solutions and drive adoption and scale
  • Demonstrated curiosity and problem solving mindset
  • Passion for tackling complex problems using data and identifying root cause
  • Decisive, yet open to learning: you will make many critical decisions every day impacting large numbers of merchants. You are willing to make these difficult decisions and quickly learn and iterate from these experiences.
  • Understanding and empathetic to the challenges of setting up a new business: You will thoughtfully balance scaled enforcement decisions with user experience.
  • Analytical: You are passionate about data analysis and can frame business decisions and tradeoffs effectively through quantitative analysis and visualization.
  • An excellent communicator and team player: You are able to convey complex ideas succinctly and work effectively across teams.
  • Effective in managing projects: You have demonstrated project-management skills and the ability to drive execution on impactful, cross-functional projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with LLM agents and how they can augment risk management practices
  • Experience with quantitative tools such as Python or R
  • Experience with consumer or commercial credit risk management
  • Experience working with software engineering and product teams

Hybrid work at Stripe

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

In-office expectations

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.

Working remotely at Stripe

A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live.

Pay and benefits

The annual US base salary range for this role is $134,900 - $202,300. For sales roles, the range provided is the role's On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Additional benefits for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; 401(k) plan; medical, dental, and vision benefits; and wellness stipends.
