Position: Temporary Part-time Elementary Head Custodian (20 hours per week)

Schedule: 7:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

Assignment may end earlier than anticipated if incumbent returns earlier than expected or circumstances change.

Reports to: School Principal/Supervisor, Plant Operations

Note: CUPE members must abide by all articles in the CUPE Local 1176 Collective Agreement.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• To abide by all Custodial related Plant practices and procedures, as well as follow all Board policies and procedures for Board Employees.
• Direct and oversee day-to-day custodial operation, including scheduling of all authorized staff under the Head Custodian's jurisdiction as may be approved by the Supervisor of Custodians.
• Coordinate, train and/or instruct staff in all aspects of the required custodial duties which include proper and safe handling and usage of equipment and materials.
• Responsible for the requisition of materials and supplies with respect to the day-to-day operation and ensure a reasonable inventory, commensurate with sound and established criteria to meet the needs of the facility.
• Responsible for stock, inventory rotation - first in, first used.
• Responsible for equipment checks, tests, minor maintenance, and repairs in the normal day-to-day operation of the facility which would include such things as furniture repair, cleaning equipment and upkeep. It is understood that the Head Custodian would not endanger the well-being of any person in the attempt to perform the above. The Head Custodian shall inform the appropriate supervisor of work outside his/her realm of ability and understanding.
• Responsible for reporting staff lateness and absenteeism, accidents, etc. to the proper authority. Staff replacement to be authorized by the appropriate supervisor.
• Responsible for contacting the appropriate supervisor of all security breaches, mechanical and electrical failures, or any other unusual circumstances such as vandalism, theft, or unauthorized person(s) in the facility. Information transmitted through direct contact and/or in report form as required.
• To work closely with our community education partners to help ensure the smooth operation of their events.
• Responsible for the security of the building and Board property at all times.
• Perform such other related custodial duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Secondary school diploma or equivalent
• Access to technology and the Internet
• Must be capable of performing a variety of repetitive, physical work (i.e., lifting, bending, pushing, pulling etc.)

Assets:

• Previous experience in commercial/industrial cleaning
• Comfort with basic facility/grounds maintenance
• Ability to work well as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
• Basic computer skills (i.e., communicating via e-mail, accessing information and training)
• Effective communication skills
• Reliable transportation to and from worksites
