Projects require environmental review and licensing and this step is becoming increasingly critical for development across Canada and around the world. We are seeking a motivated team player to lead a team of professionals while working on projects. Organizational skills and the ability to support multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced company are essential qualities. This is a permanent full-time position in our Prairies and Territories Assessment & Permitting team based in one of our offices in Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Yellowknife, Edmonton, Red Deer or Calgary. Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated, personable, and organized Team Lead for our Assessment & Permitting team within our Environmental Services Business Centre. You will report directly to the Senior Team Lead and will work closely with other leadership and team leads. As a Team Lead, you will form a key part of the leadership team and will help grow our business through ongoing recruitment, retention and development of staff. 

The team is based in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, and while we embrace our core value that "we are better together", we do offer flexible work solutions and hybrid work situations. As people leaders, you would be expected to spend a portion of your work week in-office. 

In addition, the successful candidate will provide support to all stages of a project's lifecycle including assessment, permitting and approval requirements, construction support, and post-construction support. Projects will include small to large-scale provincial and federal environmental assessments for the power and energy, infrastructure, oil and gas, transportation, and mining sectors.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Daily operational management of up to 6-12 Assessment & Permitting professionals
  • Communication of the organization's operational expectations and execution of the strategic vision of the team
  • Resource planning and management of the team by monitoring staff utilization and availability and supporting the team lead team to identify project resources
  • Work with team members to align their professional challenges with their career plans and business goals
  • Coach and mentor your team for performance and career development
  • Conduct goal setting and performance review process for team members and work with leadership to make sure training plans and performance targets are identified and met 
  • Maintain a focus on recognition and morale building within the team and planning staff appreciation initiatives
  • Provide on-going performance evaluation and targeted constructive feedback to team and initiate performance management when needed 
  • Collaborate with safety personnel and leadership to support mandatory training requirements of team members
  • Initiate and chair Assessment & Permitting team meetings
  • Initiate regular one-on-one meetings with your team members
  • Attend regular Team Leadership meetings with Human Resources
  • Contribute to compensation, leadership level, career level and job category discussions
  • Lead or participate in recruiting and onboarding of new personnel through identifying potential candidates, reviewing resumes and participating in the interview process
  • Work with the team to drive new technical initiatives or service lines
  • Being an agent of change in the team and Business Centre
  • Lead by example to promote a positive and progressive team safety culture
  • Participate in project work as part of the Assessment & Permitting team and achieve target utilization

Your Project Key Responsibilities

  • Support and ensure implementation of Health, Safety and Environment policies, procedures, standards and guidelines in the execution of all work and coordinate with Health, Safety and Environment professionals during the execution of all project phases  
  • Work directly with clients to provide strategic environmental advice 
  • Drive project delivery with a key focus on efficient execution, project controls, and safety 
  • Work in a collaborative team of technical environmental and engineering specialists to lead the approval and permitting process 
  • Prepare and review environmental assessments, regulatory applications and technical submissions  
  • Contribute to proposals, pre- qualifications, and relationship building with existing and prospective clients  
  • Communicate and collaborate with other environmental and regulatory specialists to ensure consistency in project execution 
  • Support the development of junior and intermediate staff 
  • Participate in team and independent based work  
  • Facilitate collaboration with team members to meet schedules. 
  • Lead or support business development activities, including proposals (budget development and proposal writing) and relationship building with existing and prospective clients
  • Liaise with local, provincial, and federal agencies regarding permits and approvals.
  • Interact with internal business lines, our clients, and regulators.




Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
