ROLE OVERVIEW

The Brand Communications Director is the architect of Brodie League's corporate voice and strategic narrative.

This is a senior leadership role for a communications professional who can operate fluently across culture and corporate environments. You will own Brodie League's presence across earned, owned, and paid channels, shaping how the brand shows up with media, partners, investors, and the broader basketball community.

You will lead public relations, executive communications, newsletters, daily email engagement, LinkedIn presence, and branded content distribution.

Your mission: build a world-class communications engine that positions Brodie League as the definitive voice in adult basketball culture.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Communications

  • Own Brodie League's integrated communications strategy aligned with business objectives
  • Lead communications planning for major announcements including launches, partnerships, expansions, and milestones
  • Build and manage an annual communications calendar aligned with marketing and business development
  • Provide strategic counsel to executive leadership on messaging and positioning
  • Develop crisis communications protocols and act as primary contact during sensitive situations

Media Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with national and regional media across sports, business, and culture
  • Pitch stories to tier-1 and trade publications
  • Serve as primary media contact and spokesperson liaison
  • Secure earned media that drives brand awareness and partnership interest

Corporate & Executive Communications

  • Position the CEO and leadership team as thought leaders through bylines and media features
  • Develop executive communications including talking points, Q&A documents, and briefing materials
  • Draft press releases, corporate announcements, and official statements

Owned Media & Content

  • Launch and manage the Brodie League newsletter
  • Develop daily email communication strategy to drive engagement and retention
  • Oversee LinkedIn and owned channels with consistent voice and narrative

REQUIREMENTS

  • 7-10 years of experience in corporate communications, PR, or brand journalism
  • Proven track record securing earned media in tier-1 publications
  • Experience building communications functions or brands from zero to one
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills across press, executive, and long-form content
  • Strong understanding of sports, business, and culture media
  • Comfortable managing sensitive communications and fast-moving situations
  • 5 days in office at our Toronto HQ - Brodie League has thrived due to a culture of collaboration and teamwork in office

COMPENSATION DISCLOSURE

The expected annual compensation range for this role is between $90,000 and $120,000 CAD. Compensation is based on skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and business needs. The compensation range may be adjusted in the future.
