Cowichan Cycles is a multidiscipline (yet off-road focused) bike shop in the heart of the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. Located between Victoria and Nanaimo, it's home to some of the best trail networks and backroads gravel riding on the coast, rideable year-round From the legendary downhill trails on Prevost, to endless flow on Tzouhalem and rocky old school tech on Maple, it's got something for everyone. We are searching for a proficient mechanic with a minimum two years experience in a professional bike specific service department.

Role, benefits and perks:

  • Full Time, Tuesday-Saturday, 9:30-5:30 (Tuesdays we close at 4:00 and go riding).

Responsibilities:

  • Honestly and practically repairing bikes that are in for service
  • Building new bikes for the floor to the highest quality standards
  • Working closely with floor staff to understand and meet client needs
  • Working closely with our service writer to ensure repairs meet our customers plans and expectations.
  • Supporting various client needs, like basic fit and setting up suspension
  • Defaulting to wrenching at your bench, but able to step onto the floor to support clients when needed

You are ideally:

  • An experienced bicycle mechanic knowledgeable in wheel building, suspension service (including dampers), Ebike diagnostics / repair, and more.
  • Passionate for cycling, empowering people to ride bikes and strengthening the community
  • Eager to learn and grow your craft (and to teach others what you know)
  • A personable communicator with strong customer service skills
  • Organized and adaptable to changing situations

About our culture:

The Cowichan Cycles team is lead by young ownership and we are all passionate about cycling. While of course we have our up and down days, as a whole we truly love bikes and sharing this with others. We all get along well and are all friends on and off the clock. We like to joke around and try not to take ourselves too seriously while simultaneously being serious about our work and the quality of our services and interactions. In an effort to further strengthen our culture, we have decided to close early on Tuesdays (4:00) so that staff can get a guaranteed weekly ride in. We know how hard it can be to find time to ride, and we're hoping this allotted time helps everyone keep up with the sport we love. We also recently implemented a living wage policy (not to be confused with minimum wage). The living wage policy is our commitment to ensuring that all full time staff at Cowichan Cycles can not only survive in the Cowichan Valley, but can make enough to live a full and comfortable lifestyle. At the time of this posting, the living wage in the Cowichan Valley is $25.75.
