Kitchener ON NM M, Canada LabsCubed Full time

Company Overview

LabsCubed is at the forefront of robotics and materials testing, developing industry-leading robotic test equipment that plays a crucial role in creating the materials of the future. With a rapid evolution from concept to supplier for major companies, we are excited about our ambitious plans for growth.

Role Overview:

We're looking for a sharp, hands-on Intermediate Robotics & Systems Engineer who thrives at the intersection of hardware and software. You'll help design, test, and refine automated testing systems—working with motors, sensors, robotics platforms, and Python-based control software. If you love prototyping and building real-world robotics systems from the ground up, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, select, and integrate motors, sensors, actuators, and embedded components into functional robotics systems.
  • Build and test hardware prototypes and iterate quickly based on results.
  • Develop and maintain Python-based control software for robotic systems.
  • Work closely with mechanical and software engineers to bring concepts from idea to production.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software integration issues in test setups and deployed machines.
  • Help document systems and ensure designs are scalable and maintainable.

What You Bring:

  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in robotics, mechatronics, or automation.
  • Strong skills in Python, especially for hardware control and prototyping.
  • Experience with motor drivers, stepper/servo motors, encoders, and other electromechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (UART, I2C, SPI, etc.).
  • Comfortable with breadboarding, soldering, and using lab tools (oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • A builder's mindset—quick iterations, test-driven design, and practical solutions.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with CAD design (e.g. SolidWorks, Fusion 360).
  • 3D printing for prototyping and mechanical testing.
  • Exposure to vision systems, ROS, or PLCs.

Why LabsCubed:

  • Work on meaningful engineering challenges with real-world impact.
  • Join a small team where your voice matters and your ideas shape the product.
  • Flexible work environment (hybrid or remote-friendly for the right candidate).
  • Competitive salary, stock options (ESOP), and 3+ weeks vacation.
  • Be part of a company that values innovation, learning, and collaboration.
