INTAKE WORKER
Full-time (Permanent)
Location - Kenora
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Intake Worker is a full-time permanent position responsible for responding to all child welfare intake protection referrals and requests for service received by telephone, email, walk-ins, fax, letters, or other sources. The Intake Worker provides initial screening, gathers critical information, documents referrals, and ensures timely assignment of cases. This position supports the delivery of high-quality services to children and families and ensures compliance with Agency policies, provincial legislation, and child protection standards. The Intake Worker reports directly to the Resource Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelors Degree in Social Sciences with three years of direct related experience; a combination of education, skills, and experience may be considered
• Knowledge of AAFS administrative structure, office methods, and service delivery procedures
• Thorough understanding of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Customary Care, Eligibility Spectrum, Child Protection Standards, and case documentation requirements
• Strong commitment to supporting Anishinaabe children and families in ways that respect cultural and spiritual practices
• Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
• Strong ability to build purposeful relationships with clients, staff, management, community agencies, and the public
• Proven administrative skills, including documentation of referrals, case note preparation, record keeping, and electronic data entry
• Ability to prioritize calls, assess urgency, and provide crisis support when necessary
• Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and decision-making skills
• Superior writing and proofreading abilities, with experience preparing correspondence and reports
• Knowledge of meeting preparation, case conference coordination, and minute-taking
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, client-based data systems, and a minimum keyboarding speed of 50 wpm
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and perform effectively under pressure
• Flexibility to adjust daily work hours as required
• Must possess a valid Ontario Driver's License, be willing to travel, and provide a Driver's Abstract
• Must provide a clear Criminal Records Check
• Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment at AAFS. The position requires long periods of sitting, computer use, multitasking, and meeting strict deadlines. The Intake Worker may occasionally be required to travel. The role may involve repetitive tasks such as typing, filing, and data entry while working in a shared office space.
Salary Range:
$52, $63,800 per annum

AAFS offers 4 weeks paid vacation, Extended Health, Dental, Group Life, AD&D, & Disability benefits after one month of employment and participation in our Pension program.
