Position Summary:
As an
Operations Specialist
, you will be a key member of the
US John Hancock Retirement
segment within the
Sponsor Support
department. This role involves managing complex data processing activities such as collecting, scrubbing, and uploading participant-level account data with precision and efficiency to meet established service standards.

You will also communicate with plan sponsors and internal stakeholders via the
Parts+ recordkeeping system
, while interpreting plan documents and amendments to ensure accurate report generation in line with eligibility, compensation, and contribution requirements.

Reporting to the
Operations Manager
, you will play a critical role in helping clients meet IRS compliance obligations, including nondiscrimination testing, loan delinquency reporting, and required minimum distributions. Collaboration with
Senior Compliance Analysts
and internal teams, such as
Client Service Managers
and
ERISA Government & Reporting,
will be essential to ensure all compliance activities are completed accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret customized plan documents and amendments to ensure reports align with eligibility, compensation, and annual employer contribution requirements.
  • Calculate complex employer matching contributions, including Annual Match, Lookback Match, and Profit-Sharing contributions using pro rata, integrated, and straight allocation methods.
  • Analyze and reconcile all reporting related to nondiscrimination testing and coordinate submission to the Compliance & Government Reporting team.
  • Collaborate with the Compliance & Government Reporting team to resolve issues that arise during testing cycles.
  • Perform additional job-related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 2–3 years of experience in a financial services operations environment with demonstrated success.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in Defined Contribution plan administration; experience with Third Party Administrators (TPAs) is preferred.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret, and apply 401(k) Retirement Plan Documents.
  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis and technology tools to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving capabilities within financial services, with a focus on innovation and accuracy.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally.
  • Strong time management skills and commitment to meeting deadlines and project deliverables.
