The Department

The Department of Practical Nurse and Health Care Aide offers the Practical Nurse Program and the Health Care Aide Program. Housed in the state of the art Health Education Centre located inside the award winning Grande Prairie Regional Hospital (GPRH), students benefit from smaller class sizes coupled with high-quality personalized instruction on-site at GPRH, ensuring ample opportunities for the learners of our region and students from across Canada and around the world.

The Role

The Department of Practical Nurse and Health Care Aide is looking for one or more part-time sessional instructors to teach within clinical, lab and lecture based settings within their Practical Nurse and Health Care Aide programs. These positions will be available dependant upon need throughout the Academic year (August 15, 2025 to August 14, This may include instruction in the fall and/or winter semesters and spring /summer sessions. 

 Courses assigned will be relevant to each applicant's background, qualifications and experience. Applicants will be reviewed on an ongoing basis with selection for positions to occur throughout the academic year.

Applicants must hold a Practical Nurse Diploma or RN, have current registration with a regulatory body (CRNA or CLPNA) and have two years of full-time experience in nursing practice.  Previous experience in teaching or supervision of students is desired.  Experience with student centered learning approaches would be an asset.  Equivalent education and experience will be considered.  

Successful candidates will be professionals with a positive attitude towards education; have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with students; be able to work independently and work collaboratively with colleagues; and demonstrate the ability to be self-directed and motivated.   You will be able to give guidance and direction to others, creatively find solutions to challenges, and be aware of goals and vision of nursing education.  Working knowledge with computers, word processing programs and Outlook would be an asset.

Candidates must be registered, have a current practice permit and be in good standing with the applicable health professional regulatory college in accordance with the Health Professions Act.  The candidates who are notified for an interview will be required to provide their registration and practice permit at the time of the interview.
