Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) and our Rehabilitation Oncology (RO) department at the Grande Prairie Cancer Centre are currently searching for an Occupational Therapist II (OT) to join our amazing team. You will directly support our valued patients by collaborating closely with Physiotherapists, Speech Language Pathologists and Therapy Assistants to deliver comprehensive care. You will also have the ability to develop services, program and patient education materials. Reporting to the Manager, Supportive Care, the OTII will provide adult outpatient services that include assessing, triaging and screening referrals; managing caseloads as well as developing and implementing tailored rehabilitation plans to help patients adapt to life and functional changes due to cancer treatment.

Care needs span lymphedema management, fatigue, cognition, ADLs, sexual health, pain and symptom management and palliative care. Collaboration skills will be key as you coordinate with interdisciplinary professional and community agencies to ensure continuity of care. Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care.

You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Students in the final year of their program or new graduates are encouraged to apply. (We will support the successful candidate in their professional growth and career opportunities). Active Heart and Stroke Foundation Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. It's your move patient handling certification. Empathy and compassion: an understanding of the functional, cognitive and emotional needs of patients with cancer. Effective interpersonal communication: Ability to connect with patients, families and healthcare teams in various modes of communication (verbal, written, Zoom, email). Experience providing occupational therapy in an interdisciplinary team (practicum experience will be considered). Experience working with Therapy Assistants. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1-year clinical experience in adult inpatient or outpatient acute care or rehabilitation setting. Completed Connect Care Allied Health Therapies ILT training. Experience using Epic/Connect Care. Oncology and/or palliative experience. Certified Lymphedema Therapist (e.g. Klose, Vodder, Norton). Experience facilitating groups and classes. AADL authorizer for mobility aids and/or compression garments.
