Position Overview

The
Structural Engineering Design Manager
at
Wolsey Structural Solutions
is responsible for leading the firm's structural design operations, ensuring technical excellence, efficient project delivery, and continuous improvement across all engineering teams.

This role combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership in project management, quality assurance, and design innovation. The Design Manager plays a central role in mentoring engineers, coordinating multidisciplinary collaboration, and advancing Wolsey's reputation for delivering innovative and sustainable structural solutions within the Mosaic Holding Corporation (MHC) network.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical and Design Leadership

• Lead the design and technical execution of complex structural projects across various sectors.
• Review, approve, and oversee project designs, drawings, and calculations to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Provide guidance and technical mentorship to engineers, designers, and drafters.
• Promote the adoption of advanced analysis methods, digital design tools, and sustainable engineering practices.

2. Project and Delivery Management

• Manage multiple concurrent projects from concept through construction, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget targets are met.
• Coordinate closely with clients, architects, contractors, and consultants to ensure seamless project delivery.
• Support proposal preparation, scope definition, and resource planning.
• Monitor project performance, risk, and quality control in alignment with company procedures.

3. Quality Assurance and Standards

• Maintain and enhance Wolsey's design standards, quality management systems, and technical best practices.
• Conduct design reviews, peer checks, and project audits to ensure technical rigor and compliance.
• Ensure all design documentation meets professional and regulatory standards.
• Drive continuous improvement in workflows, templates, and technical documentation.

4. Team Leadership and Development

• Lead and motivate a team of structural engineers and designers to achieve project and performance goals.
• Identify training and development opportunities to strengthen team capabilities.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative culture within the engineering group.
• Support succession planning and career development through mentorship and technical coaching.

5. Client and Stakeholder Engagement

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, project partners, and regulatory agencies.
• Represent Wolsey Structural Solutions in meetings, presentations, and coordination sessions.
• Contribute to business development efforts through technical input and client support.
• Provide expert advice on design strategies, value engineering, and constructability solutions.

6. Collaboration within Mosaic Holding Corporation

• Collaborate with other Mosaic portfolio companies on multidisciplinary and cross-sector projects.
• Share technical insights, best practices, and innovations across the Mosaic group.
• Align project delivery and engineering practices with Mosaic's broader goals for connected growth and sustainable innovation.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Alberta.
• Minimum of 10–15 years of experience in structural engineering design, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
• Proven track record in delivering large or complex building and infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of design software (e.g., ETABS, SAP2000, Tekla, Revit, RAM, STAAD).
• Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and modern design technologies.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and coordination skills.
