The Opportunity

The Accounts Payable Coordinator Financial Services plays a vital role in supporting the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the District of Sechelt. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of accounts payable transactions and related financial activities in compliance with established policies and procedures. Acting as a key resource for internal stakeholders and external partners, this role demands strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a commitment to delivering reliable, high-quality service.

Role Requirements

  • Must have completed Grade 12 (or equivalent); plus, completion of a one-year financial diploma or equivalent experience of 1-3 years. An equivalent combination of training and/or experience may be substituted for the required qualifications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, supplies, and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge in related legislation, laws and bylaws pertaining to this position.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and advanced analytical skills in evaluating and validating transactions.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with external agencies and suppliers.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to apply attention to detail and accuracy when compiling financial data and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise tact and discretion when exchanging confidential information.

Working Conditions

This is a temporary backfill of a full-time unionized position within the BCGEU and the term will be based on the return of the incumbent, approximately 12 months with the possibility of extension. The wage for this position is grid 7 $34.50 – $38.34 per hour, plus 9.8% of straight time pay during the temporary status, in lieu of scheduled vacations, paid holidays, health and welfare benefits and other paid leave. The hours of work are 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Flexibility is occasionally required to work evening meetings in a relief capacity.
