Role: The Delivery Driver, CN Fuel DZ -Team Lead position in Hornepayne, Ontario is responsible for the safe delivery of petroleum products to railway customers within a 20 km area, following train schedules and all safety rules. You'll top-fill your tanker, deliver and offload fuel to a main railway customer as well as local homes and businesses. The truck is a straight tanker that holds up to 25,000 litres.

As the Team Lead, you'll help coordinate daily tasks, support your team, enforce safety procedures, and keep communication strong with the Operations Supervisor to ensure smooth shift operations. You'll represent Pepco professionally and maintain excellent customer service and operational standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fuel Delivery: Operate a standard tri-axle tanker truck in compliance with Transport Canada's Commercial Vehicle regulations. Display excellent defensive driving skills with the ability to anticipate and respond to potential hazards. Adhere to all Highway Traffic Act regulations while driving by maintaining an accurate daily logbook, using an Electronic Logging device. Transfer fuel from the bulk plant to the tanker by ascending the loading racks and utilizing hoses to fill the compartments.

Safety Compliance and Regulations: Maintain a thorough understanding of and strictly adhere to the Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations to ensure the safe handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials. Respond and report appropriately to any emergency situations that arise. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Maintenance and Housekeeping: Maintain the cleanliness of the truck, storage box, and garage at the bulk plant. Troubleshoot mechanical problems over the phone with the support of the off-site maintenance team. Take daily dips of the bulk tanks and completing dip sheets.

Maintaining Records and Conveying Data: Documenting and submitting data (post-trip summary, Bills of Lading, TDG report, and delivery slips) daily. Entering daily shift information into a computerized program and utilizing a mobile phone for communication.

Team Lead: Ensure all operational tasks, reports and processes are completed efficiently, safely, and on schedule. Assign duties to team members, provide on-shift guidance, coaching, and support, and oversee attendance, arranging replacements when required. Act as the primary point of contact between the team and the Operations Supervisor. Address concerns promptly, escalating issues to the Operations Supervisor when necessary.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Location: Preferably lives in Hornepayne, ON or other nearby areas.
  • Typical schedule: 8.5-hour shifts (5:30am-2:00pm – includes 30 mins unpaid lunch) on a rotational basis with 7 days on 7 days off. May replace other team members when required. Work schedule may require team member to take early morning, evening, or late-night shifts, on-call during weekends or for emergencies. Weekend or holiday work also may be necessary.  Must follow Hours of Service regulations as set by the Highway Traffic Act Ontario Regulation 555-06
  • Travel Requirement: 25% during the scheduled shift.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid Class DZ license and recent driver's abstract with a satisfactory driver rating in accordance with company policy.
  • Physical Requirements: Able to operate tandem Tanker or B Train truck, including automatic and manual 18-speed transmissions. Able to perform tasks associated with loading and offloading of products, including lift and carry; or push and pull items from 20 to 50 lbs. The job also demands stamina for long hours of driving, and the physical demands of loading and unloading cargo and pulling a fuel hose.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1-year commercial driving experience required. Prior experience in the transportation of petroleum products and/or hazardous materials preferred. Minimum 2 years' experience coaching and managing a small team.
  • Technology: Able to use a smart phone to conduct basic administrative tasks and a computer for mandatory online training courses.
  • Skills: Excellent driving skills and knowledge of traffic laws and regulations. Working proficiency in basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication). Mechanically inclined to detect basic malfunctions on truck being operated. Safety, service, and savings mindset. Clear, concise, and professional communicator, both verbal and written in English and French (preferred).
