Medication Preparation & Dispensing

  • Assist in preparing medications under supervision (counting pills, measuring liquids, repackaging).
  • Help label prescription containers accurately.
  • Support blister-pack or compliance packaging of prescriptions, as needed.

Compounding Support

  • Assist in non-sterile compounding (e.g., creams, ointments, lotions, oral solutions) under the supervision of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
  • Measure and mix ingredients safely and accurately, following standardized protocols.
  • Maintain compounding equipment, ensure cleanliness of workstations, and help document compounding records.

Inventory & Stock Management

  • Monitor medication and supply inventory levels; order, receive, and restock pharmaceutical products.
  • Perform physical counts of stock, investigate discrepancies, and manage expired or recalled medications.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining proper drug storage and security.

Administrative & Clerical Tasks

  • Enter patient and prescription information into our pharmacy computer system.
  • File, retrieve, and maintain prescription records and pharmacy documentation.
  • Process insurance claims or co-payments under direction.
  • Handle telephone communications: refill requests, general inquiries, etc.
  • Perform cycle counts, assist with narcotic counts (as per policy), and support regular audits.

Customer Service

  • Serve as a welcoming, professional point of contact for patients and customers.
  • Direct customers appropriately to pharmacists for clinical or medical advice.
  • Assist in prescription pick-up and hand-over (under supervision), ensuring accuracy and patient satisfaction.

Quality & Safety

  • Follow all pharmacy standard operating procedures (SOPs), compounding protocols, and safety guidelines.
  • Help maintain a clean and organized workspace (compound room, counters, storage).
  • Document compounding activities and maintain accurate compounding records.

Qualifications & Skills

  • High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent; pharmacy assistant certificate is an asset.
  • Previous experience in a community or compounding pharmacy is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills; ability to learn pharmacy management software.
  • Ability to lift and move stock (up to ~10 kg) and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a regulated environment under supervision of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
