SCOPE AND LEVEL DEFINITION

Under the direction of the Harm Reduction Coordinator or designate, the OPS Shift Lead works as a consistent point of contact for the OPS staff. Performs duties such as supporting adherence to organization policies and procedures, supporting staff, facilitating site maintenance, cleanliness, and safety and creating statistical reports and completing administrative tasks required by the program. The OPS Shift Lead will be on-site to provide guidance, feedback and support to Overdose Prevention Site staff. They will work in partnership with leadership to ensure the OPS runs safely, efficiently and effectively within organizational objectives. They will advise on changes needed within the program and submit program reports to the leadership committee.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Supports OPS staff by:

  • Providing direction to OPS staff.
  • Providing input to the Programs Director, Operations and HR & Wellness Programs Coordinator regarding feedback, evaluation and training requirements.
  • Orienting and training new staff, modelling skills and approaches.
  • Conducting team meetings in coordination with HR & Wellness Programs Coordinator
  • Assisting in recruitment and selection of staff by performing duties such as reviewing applications, providing input into the development of interview questions, and participating on interview panels
  • Assisting in providing educational experiences to students

Engages positively with people who use illicit substances and other stigmatized populations using a harm reduction approach.

  • Discusses program expectations and re-accessing services with service users that are on program breaks.

Ensures safety of service users, guests and staff by participating in safety checks, being aware of safety concerns and protocol, directing emergency drills, and contacting appropriate services in the event of an emergency.

Supports the maintenance, cleanliness, and safety of location(s).

  • Supports staff to follow guidelines as outlined in the policy and procedure manual.
  • Connects with Facilities Coordinator as needed and when required.
  • Ensures the site's inventory of supplies is maintained by competing weekly inventory lists and submitting to Operations and HR & Wellness Programs Coordinators.

Provides input regarding policies, procedures, goals, and evaluation of the program.

  • Completes and submits quarterly reports to HR & Wellness Programs Coordinator

Assists Coordinator with supervising peer workers by performing duties such as orienting, training, monitoring, and providing feedback and support.

Responds to changeable and sometimes volatile behaviours utilizing non-violent communication and deescalation techniques.

Consults with community groups and health care professionals to identify trends, needs, and priority health issues. Maintains contact with community groups and volunteer organizations to promote interest, participation, and support for the program.

Provides operational assistance to the Harm Reduction Coordinator.

Performs shift duties including daily cleaning, sweeping and mopping, emptying garbages, etc.

Completes and maintains related records and documentation such as weekly stats, daily tracking, incident reports, and communication books.

Works within the Drug Checking Project:

  • Completes technician training when available
  • Operates point-of-care drug checking technologies including fentanyl test strips and FTIR spectrometers needed, with the aim to gather client knowledge/feedback while also enhancing awareness of and sharing harm reduction principles. Communicate drug checking analysis results to clients at point-of-care and answer any questions related to drug checking methods and outcomes.
  • Promote drug checking services and inform people with information on how to utilize drug checking services.
  • Supports drug checking data gathering and inputting into BCCSU provincial database.

Works professionally and ethically in a team setting, including the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Communicates and collaborates with other CMHA MI staff and programs.

Participates in rotating on-call schedule.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Typical Education, Training and Experience

  • Minimum three years related experience working with populations impacted by homelessness, substance use, and mental health concerns and/or barriers to stable housing
  • Minimum one year related experience in a leadership role
  • Degree in social services, social work, or relevant program.
  • Indigenous Cultural Safety Certification
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Required
  • First Aid with CPR Certification
  • Naloxone Training
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Must have the physical, mental and emotional ability to perform the duties of the position
  • Class V Drivers license

    Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

    Or other Qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work
