Position Summary:
The plant engineer will provide support to the Winnipeg site leadership team in both project engineering and operational efficiency.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes initiative, displays complex problem solving and decision-making abilities, has excellent organizational and communication skills and can function well both an autonomous and team environment. The successful candidate possesses both deep technical skills in project management, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement, as well as strong interpersonal skills working with cross functional teams to improve results.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect production data and apply standard scientific and statistical methods to identify process, procedural and facility waste, and apply continuous improvement methodology towards improvement discovery and implementation;
  • Research, select, and install process equipment, often in collaboration with the organization's Research & Development department;
  • Review vendor contracts and performance to improve operational performance;
  • Provide expertise with diagnostic and repair processes;
  • Create business cases and project management plans for capital projects, inclusive of capital projects ownership from conception to commissioning;
  • Develop preventative and predictive maintenance;
  • Develop technical documentation related to existing products, processes and equipment;
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, operations management or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in project/process management of significant complexity and value
  • Minimum of 5 years industrial experience with preference given to manufacturing experience
  • Experience in food manufacturing and/or in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment (an asset) 5 years' process management experience
  • Knowledge of an ERP / MRP system and mastery of IT tools such as Excel, Access D365.
  • Agility and good management of priorities

  • Knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Strong sense of urgency in meeting deadlines;
  • Ability to handle projects with multiple work streams both independently and as part of a team;
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities;
  • Communications effectively with tradesmen, co-workers, supervisors and contractors;
  • Displays continuous improvement approach to work.
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification/experience
