A Snapshot of Your Day
The R&D Mechanical Designer will collaborate with the Research & Development team in designing oil-insulated, freestanding inductive Current, Voltage, and Combi transformers ranging from 72.5 kV to 765 kV. These transformers are used for metering, protection, and control within high-voltage systems. The successful candidate will both standardize existing solutions and develop innovative engineering approaches to deliver best-in-class product performance, reliability, and efficiency, while ensuring a world-class customer experience. They will work closely with senior engineers, contributing to mechanical design, product development, and the integration of new technologies into our product lines. This role is well-suited for recent graduates or early-career professionals eager to learn, contribute, and grow in a specialized manufacturing environment.
Your Tasks:
- Utilize 2D and 3D CAD software to model sub-assemblies, assemblies, and individual parts, and generate engineering drawings and bills of material.
- Understand customer specifications, project requirements, and guaranteed technical particulars; prepare design review documents, technical reports, and justifications for customers.
- Perform static calculations to support the seismic qualification of all portfolio products.
- Revise and develop technical specifications for materials and parts related to Mechanical Design.
- Collaborate with senior mechanical designers, electrical designers, manufacturing teams, supplier quality management teams, and test engineers to ensure design feasibility and manufacturability.
- Effectively communicate with cross-functional teams and contribute to the supplier and part qualification process.
- Provide support for the development of design rules and R&D efforts on an as-needed basis.
- Plan, execute, and supervise assigned activities, and report to the Engineering and R&D Manager.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experienced user of 3D CAD software (e.g., CREO, Inventor, SolidWorks), 2D CAD (e.g., AutoCAD), and data management system software (e.g., SAP), with strong knowledge of Excel.
- Ability to create and interpret all details on manufacturing drawings.
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, casting, and sheet metal fabrication.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn specialized design requirements for high-voltage equipment.
- Knowledge of mechanical design and material property requirements for products exposed to outdoor environments and high mechanical/electrical stress.
- Self-motivated with the ability to produce high-quality results within the allocated time.
- Strong communication skills, essential for navigating a global environment and engaging with diverse stakeholders.
