Responsibilities
- Offer engaging companionship to older adults and individuals with disabilities, fostering social interaction and mental stimulation.
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support.
- Support residents with medication reminders and monitor vital signs to ensure health and safety.
- Prepare nutritious meals tailored to dietary needs, following care plans and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning living areas, laundry, and organizing personal belongings.
- Observe residents closely for any changes in health or behavior, documenting observations accurately while respecting privacy protocols such as HIPAA.
- Utilize specialized equipment like Hoyer lifts or resident lifts safely to assist with mobility and prevent injury.
- Support residents during outings or community activities to promote engagement and independence.
- Follow established care plans diligently, collaborating with healthcare professionals when necessary to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in ongoing training related to dementia care, Alzheimer's care, hospice support, or working with individuals with developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorders.
Skills
- Proven experience in senior care, assisted living, home health, or long-term care environments.
- Knowledge of patient observation techniques and monitoring vital signs accurately.
- Familiarity with caregiving tools such as Hoyer lifts, resident lifts, and mobility aids.
- Ability to administer medications following prescribed guidelines while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
- Strong skills in meal preparation tailored to individual dietary restrictions and nutritional needs.
- Experience working with people with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other memory-related conditions; understanding of memory care strategies.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with residents compassionately and collaborating effectively with team members.
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting when necessary and assist residents safely during transfers or activities.
- Basic first aid certification (CPR preferred) to respond promptly in emergencies.
- Prior group home experience or familiarity with assisted living facilities is advantageous.
- Knowledge of patient care documentation practices and adherence to healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
