Schedules:
Tuesday to Saturday, 7:00am to 3:00pm, full-time, temporary position. A total of 40 hours weekly.
Wages:
Starting Wage is 29.00 an hour, with an additional $2.00 premium for the medication trained shifts.
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Brio Care Manager, the Medication Trained Resident Care Aide (RCA) works as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of care as needed to Berwick Brio residents. The Medication Trained RCA may administer medication to residents, as delegated by a Licensed Practical Nurse, and provide medication reminders as per the client care plan, as required or when the Licensed Practical Nurse is unavailable on site. The RCA must strive to meet the physical, mental, emotional, social, nutritional and spiritual needs of the residents in a manner conducive to the resident's safety, comfort and dignity. The RCA is aware of and conforms to all Licensing requirements of the Residential Care Regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Graduate from a recognized Residential Care Aide Program
- Completion of online Medication administration Course with Care Rx (provided by Berwick during orientation)
- Food Safe Level 1 Certificate if handling or serving food
- Experienced in the field of geriatrics, assisted living, and residential care
- Ability to work well with seniors, their families and the public
- Tact, sound judgment, confidentiality, patience, reliability and the ability to treat staff and residents with respect and dignity
- Demonstrates a solid understanding of the intent, philosophy, and core values of residential and licensed care when planning and delivering personal care and hospitality services
- Ability to work with staff as a team is essential
- Good observational and recording skills
- Standard First Aid and CPR C
- WHMIS
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understands verbal and written instructions
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to effectively interact with the various individuals involved in providing holistic care and service in a flexible resident focused environment
- Must be in good health, physically able to perform repetitive tasks, lift, squat, bend, stand and walk as required to perform the duties of the position
- Review and understanding of policies/procedures and protocols as outlined in the Medication trained RCA Handbook

The Resident Care Aide works as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the delivery of care to Berwick's BRIO residents. With a holistic and caring approach, the RCA supports the wellbeing of residents in a manner that embraces resident safety, comfort and dignity
Note: At Berwick we understand the importance of immunization to protect our residents, team members and visitors from COVID-19. As such, a prerequisite of employment is that all new hires are vaccinated as approved by Health Canada. A current TB test and criminal record check are also required pursuant to the Criminal Records Review Act for working with vulnerable adults.
