DEFINITION:

Under the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor, the Lifeguard/Instructor III will be responsible for lifeguarding and providing instruction in a variety of programs and activities as well as supervising/controlling the activities of the aquatic center.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Supervise public use of the Aquatic Centre and related facilities;
  • Provides leadership, training, and supervision to Lifeguard I's and II's as per the direction of the Aquatic Supervisor;
  • Assists with the smooth operation of aquatic programs on a daily basis, including duties as lesson supervisor;
  • Instruct Lifesaving Swim for Life lessons;
  • Instruct Lifesaving Society Lessons;
  • Instruct Aqua Fit classes;
  • Answer and act on public enquiries, questions and complaints;
  • Assists with the implementation and promotion of aquatic programs and special events;
  • Assists with establishing emergency, operational, and maintenance procedures;
  • Perform facility maintenance such as cleaning and minor repairs to equipment;
  • Ensure that all regulations regarding public health and safety are enforced according to applicable standards;
  • Prepare and maintain records and reports as necessary;
  • Operate point of sales cash system and CLASS computer programme, as required;
  • Shift work may be required;
  • Other related duties, as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 3000+ hours of aquatic experience with basic knowledge of pool equipment, operating systems and water testing;
  • Proven leadership, team-building and supervisory skills;
  • National Lifeguard Service Award (Pool Option);
  • Aquatic Emergency Care or equivalent First Aid course;
  • Lifesaving Swim for Life Instructor;
  • Lifesaving Society Instructor Certification;
  • Pool Operators Course Level II
  • Candidates must possess:
  • National Lifeguard Service Instructor;
  • Lifesaving swim for Life Instructor Trainer;
  • Lifesaving Society Trainer; or
  • First Aid Instructor.
  • Ability to work independently and to accomplish tasks and assignments;
  • Demonstrates tact and professionalism when dealing with employees, coworkers, and the public.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff and the public in a courteous and efficient manner.
