Makami Engineering Group Ltd. is consulting engineering firm based in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario and provides the bulk of its services to industrial clients in Northern Ontario. The company is looking to expand its engineering capabilities by adding to our growing structural and mechanical departments. Makami has a full complement of structural and mechanical engineers and designers capable of handling projects in the industrial, commercial and transportation fields. We currently have two senior Structural Engineers and five Intermediate on staff and would like to add a full time Civil Structural Engineer Intern to supplement our team. We currently have a position opening for the full-time position of:

CIVIL STRUCTURAL ENGINEER INTERN

The role of this position would be to provide the following:

  • Application of regulations to area of expertise and ensuring compliance;

  • Incorporation of safety and risk analysis into structural designs;

  • Perform engineering calculations;

  • Ability to work with instruction from more senior engineers, complete tasks with guidance.

  • Write technical reports;

  • Travel to various client sites, attend project meetings and attend field reviews;

  • Participate in designing plans, specifications and details based on guidelines and with assistance from a senior engineer.

What we're looking for in a candidate:

  • Entry level experience in structural design, 0-2 years

  • Be fluent in the English language with excellent verbal and written communication skills with working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs;

  • Completed Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering;

  • Experience in structural engineering in the industrial or mining sectors

  • Willing to learn in the following fields: Mining, Rail, Steel, Concrete Structures and Foundations, Commercial and their Applicable Codes,

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs;

  • Must be able to attend industrial sites and observe all applicable safety regulations;

  • Project experience in mills, smelters, mines, industrial sites, infrastructure, refinery, material handling, pulp and paper is beneficial;

  • Must possess a valid driver's license;

  • Must possess a team player attitude and be able to work in project team environment.

  • Must be able to work on multiple projects at any given time and manage workload according to resources available, deadlines, etc.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
