Position Overview: We are looking for a seasoned and hands-on Senior Director of Cyber Threat Detection & Response to lead and evolve our global threat response capabilities. This is a player-coach role: you'll provide strategic leadership and mentorship while also jumping into trenches when needed, whether it's leading critical incident investigations, tuning detections, or diving into vulnerabilities.

This role reports to the Chief Information Security Officer and will guide the development and execution of proactive strategies to strengthen the 24x7 threat response functions, including security incident response, threat detection and monitoring, and threat intelligence. The ideal candidate brings a balance of executive presence with a deep technical foundation and a demonstrated track record of building and leading high-performing teams to elevate the organization's security posture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a global Threat Response team, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a player coach by providing strategic direction while actively engaging in technical work such as incident response, and detection development.
  • Own and mature the end-to-end incident response process, including triage, investigation, containment, and recovery for incidents affecting the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of Diligent products, systems, and data.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with IT, Product, Engineering, Legal, and Risk teams to manage incident communications and remediation efforts.
  • Drive continuous improvement of threat detection and monitoring capabilities through use case expansion, tuning, and threat intelligence integration.
  • Manage relationships with key technology vendors and MSSP/MDR partners, ensuring service quality, clear SLAs, and seamless coordination during incident response.
  • Define and report on operational and risk metrics (e.g., MTTD, MTTR, patch SLAs) to executive leadership.
  • Stay ahead of emerging threats and lead innovation in tools, processes, and team capabilities to evolve our threat response program.
  • Lead the integration of AI-driven tools and methodologies into the incident response lifecycle to enhance detection, triage, and resolution efficiency, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in cybersecurity operations.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years in cybersecurity, with 5+ years leading Threat Response or Security Operations functions.
  • Proven experience as a player-coach: comfortable shifting from strategic leadership to hands-on technical involvement as needed.
  • Deep knowledge of incident response, threat hunting, vulnerability management, and security tooling.
  • Strong understanding of attacker TTPs and threat modeling frameworks (e.g., MITRE ATT&CK).
  • Experience with SIEM, SOAR, EDR, vulnerability scanners, and cloud-native security tooling.
  • Track record of successfully leading during high-pressure incidents.
  • Strong communication and executive stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, GIAC, CISM, or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and container security.
