*The Opportunity*
We're seeking an experienced Senior Aircraft Certification Engineer to join our team Reporting to the Design Approval Organization (DAO) Manager, the Senior Aircraft Certification Engineer is responsible for ensuring all SKYTRAC aircraft modification and appliance certification activities comply with applicable airworthiness regulations. This role serves as a senior technical authority within the DAO, providing leadership across certification planning, compliance demonstration, and regulatory engagement.

This role supports a broad range of certification activities, including minor modifications related to aircraft installations, major changes to existing Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs), the development of new STCs for additional aircraft types or configurations, and appliance certification for SKYTRAC products. In this role, you will act as a technical lead and mentor within the DAO and serve as a primary technical interface with regulatory authorities.

This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including internal teams and regulatory authorities.

  • This is an in-office position, ideally based in Kelowna, BC, though we are open to supporting the role from our Ottawa, ON office. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate.

Responsibilities Include
*Certification Planning & Regulatory Engagement*

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute certification activities required for the approval of SKYTRAC products on customer aircraft, including both STC and appliance certification efforts
  • Act as a primary technical point of contact with Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) and support coordination with foreign civil aviation authorities as required
  • Develop and approve certification strategies, certification plans, and means of compliance aligned with applicable regulatory requirements

*Design & Compliance Approval*

  • Review and approve, within the scope of delegation, avionics design documentation including system architecture schematics, wiring diagrams, wire routing and installation drawings, Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), and Flight Manual Supplements (FMS)
  • Review and approve, within the scope of delegation, compliance documentation including system safety assessments, electrical load analysis, environmental qualification reports, and other certification artifacts
  • Provide technical oversight for both aircraft installation certification and appliance certification activities

*Program Execution & Field Support*

  • Travel as required to support aircraft surveys, installation activities, ground and flight test programs, and certification witnessing
  • Provide technical guidance during installation and test phases to ensure compliance objectives are met efficiently and safely

*Technical Leadership & Mentorship*

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for aircraft and appliance certification within SKYTRAC
  • Mentor and train engineering and technical staff on certification processes, installation best practices, and regulatory expectations
  • Provide technical leadership across cross-functional teams to resolve certification-related issues

*DAO Governance & Stakeholder Coordination*

  • Support DAO governance activities including participation in Airworthiness Control Committee (ACC) meetings, audits (internal and external), and reviews of DAO policies and procedures
  • Support the development and oversight of Authorized Persons (APs) in coordination with the DAO Manager
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including installers, operators, vendors, and regulators to ensure schedules, deliverables, and expectations are clearly communicated and met

What You Bring
*Candidate Must Have's*

  • Engineering degree from an accredited university in Aerospace, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting or leading aircraft certification activities.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in good standing
  • Working knowledge of aircraft modification certification, including STC and/or appliance certification
  • Familiarity with Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) airworthiness regulations and certification processes
  • Ability to review technical and compliance documentation with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated experience leading STC programs from certification planning through approval
  • Willingness and ability to travel in support of certification and project objectives

This Will Make You Stand Out

  • Previous or current transport Canada delegation or demonstrated eligibility for delegation
  • Experience acting as a primary technical interface with TCCA and/or foreign civil aviation authorities
  • Strong understanding of system safety assessments, environmental qualification (e.g., DO-160)

The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $130,000 CAD. The range posted is a guide and may not represent the compensation offered to the successful candidate. Compensation is based on the skills, knowledge, experience, and qualifications brought to the role.
