Job Summary

We're recruiting a postdoctoral fellow with evident strong expertise in cell and molecular biology to study the mis-regulation of cell division that leads to cancer. This position will require a extensive experience in biochemistry and microscopy, in particular quantitative live and confocal microscopy. Expertise in proteomics would be seen as an advantage.

As tissues and organisms grow it is essential that the new cells produced have complete stable genomes. This requires the equal segregation of the genome into two new cells during the process of cytokinesis. Any failure in this process can lead to aneuploidy, micro-nuclei formation and subsequent genome instability commonly found in tumors. Successful cytokinesis that prevents these events is achieved through a series of checks and balances that ensure the correct spatio-temporal remodelling of the cell. The position available, funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research, is to dissect these checks and balances to understand how a stable genome is maintained.

We are seeking an ambitious cell and molecular biologist (PhD within 5 years of gaining their degree) with a strong publication record, capacity to communicate effectively and the desire to tackle bold problems. You must have a demonstrated strong expertise in cell biology (tissue culture, transfection etc..), biochemistry (including protein purification) and quantitative microscopy (including live imaging). Experience of proteomics would be an advantage. The successful applicant will join the Cell Division Research Group ) located in the heart of downtown Toronto at the University of Toronto. Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research in alignment with the project goals and objectives.
  • Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results.
  • Collaborate with team members on interdisciplinary projects and contribute to the development of research proposals.
  • Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at conferences.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments and ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Experience

  • A Ph.D. in Molecular Biology / Cell Biology gained with in the last 5 years.
  • Strong evident experience in Molecular Biology.
  • Strong evident experience Microscopy (including confocal microscopy and live imaging).
  • Evident experience in Biochemical techniques including protein purification.
  • Extensive experience in cell biology including cell culture.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proven track record in publication.
