Job Summary
Aura Health & Safety is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our Occupational Health and Safety team located in Vancouver, BC.
Minimum Requirements
· Two to five years' experience working in the OHS-field, preferably in the consulting industry conducting tasks such as:
· Performing hazardous building materials assessments
· Air monitoring and exposure / risk assessments for chemical contaminants
· Air monitoring for biological contaminants
· Sample collection using direct reading instruments (e.g., measuring noise levels, air quality parameters, etc.)
· Degree or diploma from a recognized and relevant institution in the field of industrial hygiene and or occupational health and safety (exceptions may be made for those with a Bachelor of Science degree, in consideration of other qualifications)
· Class 5 Driver's Licence and vehicle
· Canadian citizen and/or be able to attain necessary Canadian federal clearance
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate clearly with clients, and execute and deliver the highest quality service including reporting, data collecting and training
· Ability to travel for work projects (e.g., one week out of town once per quarter)
Preferred Qualifications
The following would be considered an asset, in addition to the mandatory qualifications referenced above:
· WorkSafeBC level "S" asbestos surveyor certification
· Previous experience in construction or demolition industry
· Previous experience in a trade such as HVAC, electrician, carpenter, etc.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office.
· Knowledge of industrial hygiene / environmental health and safety regulations in British Columbia, particularly Parts 5 and 6 of the OHSR and associated best practices and guidelines documents.
· Project management or a role in which you were responsible to oversee and manage personnel
Job Description
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Primary (anticipated to occur on a weekly basis):
· Conducting hazardous materials assessments (e.g., asbestos inventory assessments, pre-renovation assessments)
· Managing projects and client communications / correspondence regarding hazardous materials assessments and similar projects
Secondary (anticipated to occur periodically, on a monthly basis):
· Conducting air quality investigations
· Conducting mould assessments
· Conducting exposure investigations/assessments
· Monitoring and sampling for various chemicals of interest
· Developing exposure control plans, safe work procedures, etc.
· Proposal and report writing
· Training and presenting information
· Liaising with various parties and personnel
