Senior Consultant, Digital Forensics

The Sr. Consultant, based out of Consilio's Toronto office, plays a key role in delivering high-quality digital forensics and data preservation services for complex litigation matters. This role leads and supports investigations involving electronically stored information (ESI) across a wide range of data sources. Working as part of Consilio's Digital Forensics & Expert Services team, the Sr. Consultant conducts forensic data collections, performs analytical examinations, assists with evidence intake, and partners directly with clients and Consilio internal teams in a highly consultative, professional, and client-facing capacity.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support the planning and execution of data preservation workflows, ensuring the use of legally defensible and industry-approved methodologies.
- Facilitate client calls with confidence and a consultative approach.
- Work independently onsite for small to medium engagements, representing the DFES team professionally.
- Conduct forensic analysis across a variety of devices, systems, networks, cloud platforms, and storage media, including mobile phone seizure and retention.
- Perform forensic examinations and investigative tasks with minimal supervision from a Manager or Senior Manager.
- Execute data restoration and conversion activities to prepare ESI for processing and hosting.
- Utilize forensic tools—including EnCase, FTK, Axiom, and Cellebrite—to conduct investigations and validate findings.
- Assist with evidence intake, documenting and maintaining strict chain of custody protocols.
- Apply strong knowledge of operating systems, applications, and digital evidence protocols to solve technical issues using methodical, forensically sound approaches.
- Follow industry-recognized forensic standards, including ISO17025 and ACPO principles, across all aspects of the workflow.
- Prepare expert reports and documentation and contribute to expert witness materials for client matters.
- Communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
- Travel domestically and internationally, independently or with a team—to conduct data collections as needed.
- Maintain strong client service orientation and professionalism in all client-facing environments.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in forensic computing or equivalent relevant experience.
Minimum Experience Requirements
- 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible experience in digital forensics, investigations, or related technical fields.
Other Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to excel in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Strong understanding of evidence management principles.
- Proficiency with forensic acquisition tools and a variety of file formats.
- Ability to collect ESI from devices and platforms including computers, mobile devices, servers, networks, social media, and cloud environments.
- Familiarity with rules of evidence, ACPO guidelines, ISO17025, and proper chain-of-custody procedures.
- Solid understanding of computer networking in enterprise environments.
- Availability for short-notice or weekend travel.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with eDiscovery platforms, forensic collection, and analysis software.
- Certifications such as EnCase, FTK, Cellebrite, Nuix, CFE, or similar
- Exposure to SQL or scripting languages.
