Join the Clean Energy Revolution
Are you ready to shape the future of sustainable energy? Hydrostor, a pioneer in Advanced Compressed Air Energy Storage (A-CAES) systems, is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Toronto. We're enabling the energy transition to a cleaner, more reliable electricity grid, and invite you to be at the forefront of this groundbreaking journey.
Why Hydrostor?
Our cutting-edge A-CAES technology is uniquely positioned to revolutionize the energy landscape. Join us as we lead the way in shaping a greener, more sustainable future.
Your Mission
As a Geological/Geotechnical Engineer at Hydrostor, you will play a crucial role in our renewable energy projects, contributing directly to the development and implementation of innovative long-duration underground energy storage solutions. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, your primary responsibility will be to provide geological/geotechnical expertise and support for underground energy storage facilities' design, construction, and operation. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including in-house engineering, consultants, contractors, regulators and project management, to ensure the successful execution of our projects and the optimization of our energy storage systems. Your role is integral to advancing our mission of providing sustainable and reliable underground energy storage solutions.
Your Day-to-Day Adventures
Site Investigation: Provide oversight to geotechnical site investigations, including soil and rock sampling, laboratory and in-situ testing, geophysical surveys, and geological mapping, to assess subsurface conditions and inform project design.
Geotechnical Design: Develop geotechnical design parameters and recommendations for underground structures, including caverns and shafts, ensuring stability and safety in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Ground Support Systems: Design, specify and optimize ground support systems, including rock bolts, shotcrete and ground reinforcement, to mitigate geologic hazards and ensure the long-term stability and performance of underground structures.
Mining/Construction Oversight: Provide geotechnical oversight during underground construction activities, including shaft excavation, drilling and blasting, to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety protocols.
Instrumentation and Monitoring: Design and monitor geotechnical instrumentation, such as telltales, piezometers, and extensometers, to assess ground behaviour and performance during construction and operation.
Risk Assessment: Conduct geotechnical risk assessments and analyses, including rockfall hazard assessment, embankment stability analysis, and groundwater flow analysis, to identify and mitigate potential risks to project safety and performance.
Technical Support: Provide technical support and expertise to project teams, contractors, and stakeholders, addressing geological/geotechnical challenges and optimizing project outcomes through proactive problem-solving and collaboration.
Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, drawings, and documentation, summarizing site investigations, design analyses, and construction activities, to support project documentation and regulatory compliance.
