Position Summary
Cardinal Point is seeking a motivated Private Wealth Manager with a self-starter mentality to support our cross-border tax offerings. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to deepen expertise in cross-border tax and wealth planning for high-net-worth individuals, families, and business owners. The ideal candidate will combine strong technical tax knowledge with a client-first mindset—helping to design and implement tailored financial and tax strategies across U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions. Working closely with senior advisors and tax professionals, you'll manage client relationships, support plan execution, and contribute to the continued growth of our cross-border advisory practice. This role can be located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Primary Responsibilities
Act as the client's primary liaison, team leader, and advocate, ensuring that financial and tax planning strategies are executed according to firm standards and individual recommendations, while continuously monitoring progress to help clients achieve their goals throughout all phases of the relationship.Serve as the primary advisor for all aspects of cross-border wealth management, including tax, investment, and financial planning with responsibility for integrating these components into comprehensive financial strategies for clients.Prepare and review tax projections and planning reports. Review prior year tax returns as part of the financial planning process to ensure past compliance work was done correctly.Research complex individual, corporate, and trust tax issues, and communicate actionable tax strategies and opportunities to support client needs for cross-border tax planning and compliance.Identify, effectively communicate and document tax issues and opportunities.Maintain high proficiency with Canadian and U.S. tax softwareCollaborate with external tax and legal professionals to ensure cross-border wealth management strategies comply with all relevant regulatory requirements and are fully integrated into each client's comprehensive financial plan.Conduct regular reviews with clients to monitor changes in tax regulations, lifestyle objectives, and material life events, ensuring their plans remain compliant and aligned with fiduciary standards to deliver a seamless client experience.Partner closely with an assigned Client Relationship Specialist to address client operational needs as well as to provide mentorship and coaching to support their professional development and growth within Cardinal Point.Demonstrate a strong team orientation by actively collaborating with colleagues and contributing to a supportive, solutions-focused work environment to advance shared goals and ensure the highest standard of client service. Possible examples include:Peer reviews for modular financial and tax planning.Coach peers through the process surrounding U.S. and Canadian tax projections.Peer resource for ad-hoc cross-border tax questions.Peer review of blog content focused on technical cross-border tax strategies.Contribute to a positive company culture by fostering collaboration and adaptability, promoting efficient practice management, maintaining strong organizational skills, and demonstrating a proactive approach as an early adopter of new initiatives and technologies.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree;CPA, CA, or LLM required, CFP in Canada and/or the US.5+ years experience in tax planning or tax compliance in both the US and Canada.Knowledge of cross-border income, gift, and estate taxes; investments; employee benefits; insurance; executive compensation; and personal and philanthropic wealth transfer strategies.Exceptional interpersonal, process management, and attention to detail skills.Possesses strong analytical (IQ), emotional (EQ), and positive intelligence (PQ) to ensure well-rounded, effective decision-making and client service.Cardinal Point, Focus Partners Canada is a cross-border wealth management firm dedicated to helping affluent individuals and families navigate the financial complexities of life in Canada and the U.S. With a fiduciary-first approach, we deliver personalized investment, tax, estate, and financial planning solutions that span currencies, jurisdictions and generations.
This is an Exempt role. The annualized base pay for this role is CA$200,000-250,000. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, geographic location where work will be performed and the applicant's skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for employees.
