The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Finance will act as a subject matter expert and advise on issues related to accounting, financial reporting, financial forecasting, financial and business planning and analysis, cash management, banking, tax, and other ad hoc activities. The Director of Finance is a member of the Senior Leadership team and oversees the finance team.

Specific Accountabilities

Management Responsibility

· As a member of the leadership team, participates in the leadership of RSL's overall business.

· Serves as a business partner and advisor to the RSL leadership team. Provides analysis and delivers insight that links financial reports to business strategies.

Corporate Governance

· Assists in maintaining a dedication to developing best practices as it relates to financial reporting, ownership reporting, banking, and investment management.

Strategic Plan

· As a member of the Senior Leadership team, participates in the development and implementation of the corporate strategic plan, which establishes the company's vision, goals, and objectives and identifies key strategic issues to be addressed to achieve those goals.

Performance Management

· Leads the development of KPIs and/or applicable benchmarks to ensure management targets the appropriate revenue and cost drivers to improve top-line margins and overall profitability.

· Works with the leadership team to continually evaluate the financial models, reports, and KPIs used to monitor the company, ensuring they are relevant and support decision-making that promotes financial and operational effectiveness.

· Ensures relevant information is available in real time and used by corporate and branch management to drive efficiency and productivity, enhancing margins and overall profitability.

Service Orientation

· Develops and maintains a strong service orientation, ensuring open, effective, and responsive communication between the finance team, branches, distribution, and the corporate leadership team.

Accounting Policies and Audit Internal Controls

· Maintains financial details and general corporate accounting for RSL, ensuring accurate financial records and streamlined consolidation processes are in place to provide a clear line of sight to branch, distribution centre, and corporate operations.

· Oversees the development of business processes, internal controls, systems, and procedures to ensure the integrity of information.

· Plans and implements best-practice process improvements, controls, and system enhancements to mitigate financial risks and streamline finance procedures.

· Responsible for ensuring the existence of appropriate safeguards to protect the company's assets.

· Ensures the development and implementation of an annual audit plan.

Financial Reporting

· Responsible for timely and accurate financial reporting to the owners and leadership team. Provides well-developed commentary to support the understanding of the numbers and the short and long-term implications of variances.

· Drives consistency and accuracy of the financial reports presented to the owners, leadership, and financial institutions. Ensures all financial statements represent the true position of the company and that all transactions are booked in accordance with Canadian GAAP.

Operating and Capital Budgets

· Oversees the budgeting process, which ensures buy-in and ownership at the branch, distribution centre, and departmental levels.

· Leads the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets for the company that reflect the objectives, plans, and priorities established in the business plan. Continually evaluates ways to streamline or improve the budgeting system.

· Ensures capital budgets are supported by a strong business case and in-depth financial analysis.

· Ensures that all departments and branches receive the finance department's support in developing and implementing their annual and capital budgets.

Credit Management

· Assists in the development and enforcement of credit policies and controls in the revenue cycle.

· Works with sales to resolve credit issues and outstanding accounts receivable with customers.

Treasury and Cash Management

· Maintains bank and lending relationships and is responsible for the master banking arrangements. Ensures that all operating lines, cash management, and short-term investments support RSL's needs in a cost-effective manner.

· Ensures appropriate cash flow through planning and investment management.

· Responsible for ensuring compliance with all banking covenants.

External Relationships

· As required, liaises with auditors, legal counsel, and government officials on accounting and/or financial reporting matters.

· Keeps abreast of the business and economic climate in which RSL and its clients operate.
