Come work as a Medical Coordinator with Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)

Reporting to the Program Medical Director for Vancouver Urgent and Primary Care Centers (UPCCs) at VCH- Vancouver Community, the Medical Coordinator provides clinical and administrative leadership for the UPCC nurse practitioner and physician team. The Medical Coordinator will work in partnership with operations manager overseeing clinical service delivery at a *new* UPCC located in Vancouver. Medical Coordinator and Operations Manager, together are responsible for the site's clinical service delivery, represent the UPCC team, and support implementation and development of VCH UPCC program service delivery locally. 

 Please note: this is a part time medical leader administrative contract position of 0.2 FTE. In addition to the leadership role, a minimal clinical commitment of 0.4 FTE to practice within the site is also expected, however it is not included in this leadership position.

As a Medical Coordinator with Vancouver Coastal Health, you will:

  • Foster collaborative working relationships and effective team communication that support the clinical practice and ongoing development of UPCC physicians, nurse practitioners and VCH staff with an expectation on providing team based urgent & primary care.
  • In conjunction with the operational manager partner, ensure adherence to legislation, safety standards and VCH policies to provide a healthy and safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Implement UPCC program strategy and initiatives in partnership with the Operations Manager and the program leadership team. Similarly, ensure engagement and communication with the provider team in relation to these priorities.
  • Ensure integration of medical practice at a local level by communicating both the strategic priorities of VCH and local operational goals.
  • Work in collaboration with operations, medical and clinical leads to identity, support and lead quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure adherence to accreditation and practice standards for safe delivery of high quality urgent and primary care.
  • Recruit and retain locum and contracted physician and NP medical staff, in partnership with the Program Medical Director and NP Director.
  • Responsible for and coordinate orientation and initial support for new medical staff joining their site
  • Coordinate and oversee an efficient, effective and comprehensive medical staff work schedule
  • Work with operational administrative support +/- operations manager to monitor/track the physician budget, invoicing, and contract delivery.
  • Represent VCH and advocate for the work of the UPCC team as a medical leader in both internal & external settings.

Vancouver Community contributes to the health of Vancouver residents by providing a range of direct and contracted services including home care services (home health & home support), mental health services, substance use services, long term care, palliative care/end of life services, community geriatrics and both longitudinal and urgent primary care services.



Qualifications

Education, Licensing, & Experience:

  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – Full
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory
  • Nurse Practitioner applicants require eligibility for licensure with the BC College of Nursing and Midwives (BCCNM)
  • Physician applicants require a Medical Degree and eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia supplemented by medical leadership experience within a large health organization and a proven track-record in clinical practice.
  • Demonstrated commitment to on-going learning and professional development.

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Use sound business acumen to develop and foster collaboration and effective working relationships with stakeholders that promote cooperative goals and contribute to an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
  • Apply conflict management skills and expertise to persuade and negotiate effective resolution of issues / disputes.
  • Inspire a shared vision and align performance goals and objectives for medical staff to ensure a match with service delivery strategy, while maintaining group cohesiveness, motivation, commitment and effectiveness.
  • Provide timely and appropriate advice and consultation utilizing effective targeted communication strategies to gain acceptance of recommendations and to facilitate effective decision-making and operations within the context of the medical staff by-laws.
  • Build credibility, understanding and trust in the external community to assist the Communities of Care and VCH to meet its strategic priorities.
