As we continue to scale our operations and deploy quantum systems across North America and internationally, we are strengthening the IT backbone that supports our teams. We are seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented IT specialist to enhance and maintain our hybrid IT environment.

Role Overview

The IT Systems & Infrastructure Specialist will take ownership of our Montreal-based hybrid on-premise and cloud IT environment. This role involves hands-on systems administration, network and security management, infrastructure documentation, and end-user support. You will ensure the reliability, security, and performance of the systems that power our research, engineering workflows, and day-to-day operations.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud & Infrastructure Management

• Administer and optimize our Microsoft Azure environment, including identity, compute, networking, and storage services.
• Manage integrations between on-premise infrastructure and Azure cloud resources.
• Conduct monitoring, patching, and system hardening to support operational reliability and security.
• Maintain backup/disaster recovery systems and contribute to business continuity planning.

Network Administration

• Oversee the company's LAN/WAN infrastructure, switches, routers, and wireless systems.
• Configure and maintain firewalls, VPNs, and secure remote access solutions.
• Assist in the design and upkeep of DMZs and network segmentation strategies.
• Troubleshoot network issues and optimize performance and reliability.

Systems Administration

• Administer Linux systems, especially Ubuntu servers and workstations.
• Provide support for Windows and macOS environments.
• Maintain identity and access systems such as Azure AD, local AD, and SSO.
• Implement scripts and automations to simplify operational tasks.

Cybersecurity

• Apply cybersecurity best practices across infrastructure, endpoints, and user environments.
• Monitor for threats, vulnerabilities, and suspicious activity, taking corrective action where necessary.
• Support the implementation of secure architecture components (e.g., firewalls, DMZs, segmentation).
• Collaborate on security policy development and compliance improvements.

Documentation & Architecture

• Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation for:
  • Network topology
  • System architecture
  • Infrastructure configurations
  • Standard operating procedures
• Ensure documentation remains current and accessible to technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to IT roadmap planning and architecture evolution.

Employee IT Support

• Provide responsive and professional IT support to employees across all departments.
• Set up new laptops, workstations, accounts, and user access rights.
• Support meeting room systems, collaboration tools, and general IT operations.
• Assist with structured IT onboarding/offboarding processes.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of experience in IT systems, infrastructure, or network administration.
• Strong expertise in the Azure ecosystem and hybrid cloud/on-prem operations.
• Proficiency with Linux (Ubuntu) administration.
• Strong understanding of networks, including routing, switching, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and firewalls.
• Experience with firewall configuration, DMZ setup, and basic cybersecurity architecture.
• Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation.
• Experience supporting mixed environments (Windows, macOS, Linux).
• Familiarity with device management systems (Intune, JAMF, etc.) is an asset.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and proactive mindset.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with technical and non-technical teams.
