Job Summary

Kuriakos is a Christian camp and year-round retreat centre nestled on the shore of Sylvan Lake, Alberta. The Program Director, under the supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with the program team, is responsible for developing and implementing all programming of Kuriakos (e.g. summer camps, retreats, and hosted events like the Kuriakos Outdoor School).

This is a full-time, year-round position and includes on site, private accommodation and a benefits package including lifestyle and health spending and professional development.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related fields of study (e.g. Outdoor Leadership, Education) or at least three years of experience in ministry or other related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and manage year-round and summer staff, and work effectively with all ages.
  • Proven experience hiring, training, and supervising seasonal staff and volunteers.
  • Experience in making decisions regarding overall operational performance of the ministry.
  • Competence in administrative tasks including scheduling, budgeting, and staff evaluations.
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative in resolving problems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to connect with youth, families, staff, and church communities.
  • Skilled in managing safety and risk management policies in camp environments.
  • Willingness to live on-site and serve as a visible community leader.
  • Ability to work some evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Certifications in high ropes and canoeing an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Embody the mission and values of Kuriakos.
  • Develop summer and retreat programs as needed.
  • Oversee the facilitation of all summer, retreat, and Kuriakos Outdoor School programs.
  • Manage, mentor and encourage Program Coordinator and seasonal Program Staff
  • Recruit, train, and supervise the summer staff.
  • Recruit and supervise additional program staff for all retreats as needed.
  • Facilitate Challenge Course.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings and periodic staff planning retreats.
  • Assist in maintaining the digital presence of Kuriakos in social media.
  • Execute yearly goals and any additional duties as assigned.
