Position purpose:

Reporting to the Director, Grant Development Services, provides expertise and support for knowledge mobilization and social innovation in order to enhance the university's reputation as a leader in research.

Identifies and facilitates activities that provide uOttawa researchers in social sciences, humanities, health, education, business and law fields with tools that develop skills to increase the impact of their research; to engage users in the research process; and to create partnerships and linkages in areas of mutual interest with external partners in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

Overall, the position is critical to maximize the impact of uOttawa research by promoting its uptake into policy, practice and services in areas of societal interest, such as mental health, social justice, community development.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Act as a key resource for the development and implementation of the uOttawa institutional knowledge mobilization (KMb) strategy.  Identify needs, develop plans; monitor progress; and conduct evaluations.

  • Provide expert advice to the Associate Vice-President, Research Promotion and Development, Vice Deans (Research), Professors, faculty research administrators on KMb/Knowledge Translation strategies and approaches.

  • Develop and manage knowledge mobilization initiatives and activities that build researcher skills in KMb/Knowledge Translation, including offering training and promoting methods, such as engaged scholarship, and participative research, that engage research users in the research process and in disseminating research results.  Develop and maintain online KMb resources and coordinate a decentralized model for providing hands-on assistance to faculty administrators and professors.

What you will bring:

  • A graduate level degree in a relevant field, preferably with a strong research or knowledge mobilization/knowledge translation background, or equivalent experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of the academic social sciences, humanities, health, education, business and law research environment and its ecosystem (funders, partners, stakeholders).

  • A minimum of 7 years of related experience in a research-intensive environment.

  • Experience in identifying and applying effective knowledge mobilization/knowledge translation practices for social innovation, including the development of partnerships with a range of stakeholders both in the co-creation of research and as research users.  

  • Ability to liaise with various groups of administrators, researchers and stakeholders to bring together diverse interests to develop KMb services and events and promote accomplishments.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize and triage work based upon sound decision-making principles and organizational goals and objectives.

  • Analytical skills to interpret and explain performance metrics

  • Strong software application skills, including but not limited to, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) information retrieval; information and database management.

  • Bilingualism – French and English (oral and written).
