YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focused programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock and has 60 buildings.
The Inclusion & Volunteer Supervisor ensures an inclusive and supportive camp environment by overseeing daily cabin programming for the Inclusions program and managing the care and well-being of campers and volunteers working with a 1:1 staff member. The role prepares staff to effectively support 1:1 participants and serves as the primary contact between camp and camper or participant families. Inclusion & Volunteer Supervisor provides coaching, guidance, and quality programming to participants and staff, while advocating for children and adults with additional needs and fostering an inclusive camp experience. The position also coordinates the placement and supervision of volunteers who do not require 1:1 support, ensuring their experience is meaningful and aligned with their interests.
In this role, you will:
- Oversee the care and well-being of campers working with a 1:1 staff member
- Coordinate the successful placement and inclusion of volunteers throughout various areas of camp
- Prepare properly each staff person working with a 1:1 participant prior to their arrival
- Welcome volunteers with special needs and provide support throughout their stay
- Provide leadership to the camp staff team by training, coaching, motivating, monitoring performance, and delivering mid- and end-of-summer performance appraisals to ensure staff meet role expectations and achieve camp objectives
- Build and maintain strong relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners
- Perform other duties as assigned
You bring:
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification valid for the entire contract
- Current National Lifeguard Certification
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Work, Ontario Certified Teacher, Resource Teacher, Social Work, Developmental Support, Educational Assistant, Recreation and Leisure, or training in psychology and experience working with children and adults with differing abilities and diagnoses considered an asset
- Previous experience in a related environment, with a minimum of one year working in a program supporting children and adults who require additional support
- Valid driver's license considered an asset
- Ability to work effectively with others and independently to achieve optimal collective results
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
- Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, staff, and volunteers
- Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both inexperienced and seasoned staff
- Ability to deliver feedback in a timely, professional, and constructive manner
- Ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
