What's the role
Shell Pipeline is currently seeking to fill an Operation Tech (Offshore Operator) vacancy in the Gulf of Mexico. The successful candidate will need to be committed to the Safe, Reliable, and Efficient operation of Shell Midstream platform. Must safely perform day-to-day operation activities to ensure reliable operations which meet all regulatory criteria and transportation of Crude Oil and Natural Gas. This position requires that you have offshore platform operational knowledge and experience. Candidate must be able to assist with daily platform operations, and from time to time stand in as a Control Room Operator. This role also requires that candidate have experience instructing other personnel including 3rd party partner assisting with platform operations. Job requires a highly motivated individual who can deliver a good quality job on time and follow instruction without being directed.
What You'll Be Doing
- Must be able to work well as part of a team in a dynamic offshore environment.
- Requires effective interpersonal communications skills with all levels, including management, internal and external customers and 3rd party team members.
- Requires innovation, problem solving, flexibility and the ability to make quick sound decisions all while keeping safety as the top priority.
- May require long hours - while on tower you will be on-call 24 hours (release prevention, platform upsets, security, etc.).
- Be able to monitor platform and pipeline equipment (SDVs, Slug Catchers, DRA injection equipment, Pig Receiver & Launchers, etc).
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements (BSEE, USCG, DOT, & SHELL Standards).
- Be able to follow prescribed procedures, standards, and regulations.
- Maintains safety awareness and actively observes for abnormal and/or dangerous situations which could result in a release or unsafe condition.
- Perform all work in a safe manner to achieve Goal Zero.
- Follow scheduling orders and conduct pipeline launcher & receiver line ups for delivery/receipt of pigs to/from the platform(s).
- Review and update Waste Generation Logs as per EPA/USCG
- Monitor instrumentation and product movement for variations outside of prescribed procedures.
- Perform required inspections and record keeping throughout work schedule (gauging, facility inspections, pipeline inspections, etc.).
- Must conduct Safety Meetings, Drills, Site Specific Orientations, Training, review Incident Bulletins, and prepare Permits, and JSA's.
- Responsible for facility surveillance by adhering to Facility Response Plan (FRP), Local Operations Procedures (LOPs), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), and Facility Security Plan (FSP).
- Responsible for completing daily site checklists.
- Work with stakeholders (Control Center, Scheduling, and customers) to resolve scheduling conflicts and communicate any equipment issues which could impact daily operations.
- Responsible for validating equipment before use.
- Complete and stay in compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations; Operator Qualifications; HSSE training and standards; and all other applicable regulations (e.g. Hazmat, RCRA, etc.).
- Actively support and participate in the LEAN processes, audits, inspections, and other company sponsored initiatives.
- Actively support facility housekeeping.
- Duties may vary based on demand of platform operations and projects
Dimensions
- Pipeline systems crossing over WD-143 A/B/C platforms which include Mars Oil and Gas, Ursa Oil and Gas, Olympus Oil and Gas, Medusa Oil, and Tetco Gas Pipelines, with an average daily throughput over 300K BOE/Day.
- Platform utility systems located on WD-143A/B/C
- Occasional backfill for Operations personnel on other SPLC operated platforms.
What We Need From You
- Must have legal authorization to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis for anyone other than the current employer
- 5+ years of offshore experience or 10+ years in oil/gas operations
- Experience working in an environment supporting oil and gas product movements
- Experience demonstrating safe work practices and compliance in a hazardous work environment.
- Experience in Emergency Preparedness and Response (ICS Team Member)
- Experience in obtaining and issuing Permits to Work inclusive of gas monitoring requirements, identification and application of Lock Out / Tag Out.
- Experience performing and completing Job Hazard Analysis
- Proficient in planning, coordinating, and executing work plans and preventative and reactive maintenance programs.
- Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills required to work well and influence others.
- Experience working in an environment which requires multi-tasking and the continuous re-prioritization of work tasks due to the demand of keeping systems safe and operational.
- Experience working in an unfavorable environment – High winds, Extreme Heat & Cold Weather conditions.
- Currently hold or able to obtain, on short order, TWIC, T-HUET, API rigger certification, Fall Rescue, HLO/HDA, and Shell Midstream (SPLC) PTW training.
- Experience working with SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, and navigating SharePoint.
Physical Capability
- Be able to climb multiple flights of stairs on a regular basis multiple times per day.
- Daily activities may include lifting 50lbs, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking on uneven ground, climbing, twisting, pulling and pushing.
- Be able to ride helicopter to and from work location.
- Comfortable working outdoors for extend periods of time.
- Report to work whenever requested and work extended hours if required.
- Must be able to respond to emergencies in the middle of the night.
Special Challenges
This position covers a large area and wide range of equipment on the largest offshore platform in Shell Midstream. This position requires up front planning to execute tasks timely and safely in areas. An individual is expected to be proficient as an Operator within a reasonable period of time. Once proficient, the individual will be expected to develop secondary skills in order to provide relief as a backup Control Room Operator. Individual should be able to demonstrate and take initiative to further develop operational skills.
What We Offer
The base salary range for this position is $84, 000 - $126, 000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
