The
Engineer III, Mechanical Mission
is responsible for coordinating and executing mechanical systems engineering tasks in accordance with project schedules, budgets, and technical requirements. This role participates in all phases of new-build design projects, including requirements decomposition, design development, supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and project close-out activities.

Duties & Accountabilities

  • Provide engineering and design solutions for mission-critical mechanical systems in compliance with project requirements.
  • Perform calculations to validate system designs and ensure adherence to technical standards.
  • Develop and/or review material specifications and bills of material in alignment with internal strategies and project needs.
  • Collaborate with supply chain teams to engage suppliers and review technical submittals.
  • Provide direction to suppliers and subcontractors to ensure mechanical system designs meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives.
  • Conduct field reviews and offer engineering support during production and installation activities.
  • Identify technical risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Develop test plans, installation strategies, and supporting documentation for mechanical equipment and systems.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Minimum
    5+ years of engineering experience
    , ideally with exposure to complex mechanical or mission-system environments.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
    with the provincial engineering association (EGBC or equivalent).

Skills, Knowledge & Required Competencies

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret, validate, and synthesize technical data.
  • Experience developing schematic designs (e.g., process flow diagrams) and performing supporting calculations.
  • Familiarity with piping specifications and mechanical system standards.
  • Experience with hydraulic, lifting, or mechanical handling systems is preferred.
  • Strong technical writing skills, including preparing specifications, procedures, and engineering reports.
  • Knowledge of MRP, procurement, and engineering management systems is preferred.
  • Understanding of CAD and modeling tools such as ShipConstructor, CADMATIC, or AutoCAD; familiarity with document control systems is an asset.
