2. Certified with Canadian College of Health Information Management and must be an active member in good standing
3. Member of the Ontario Health Record Association is preferred
4. Experience with PHIPA and the requirements for access and disclosure of personal health information (PHI)
5. Familiarity with coding and abstracting software such as Med 2020 an asset
6. Experience in an electronic health record environment, as well as a paper-based system
7. Experience in hospital information systems, preferably Meditech
8. Computer proficiency in the MS-Suite of Windows applications; MSWord, Excel, Power-point
9. Excellent communication skills and good judgment
10. Self-directed and the ability to work independently and under occasional interruptions
The Health Information Management Professional is responsible for the release of personal health information in accordance with the Personal Health Information Protection Act, (PHIPA) and hospital policy. The individual is responsible to ensure that patient confidentiality and privacy are maintained prior to the disclosure of patient information.
The individual will have excellent understanding of the privacy legislation, privacy and confidentiality of patient information. The HIM professional will be able to work independently, be well organized and able to prioritize workload to ensure timely access and disclosure of personal health information. The individual will have excellent knowledge and experience in an electronic health record environment, as well as a paper-based system. The individual will demonstrate flexibility and adaptability, demonstrating initiative, identify opportunities for improvement and have excellent communication skills. The individual will maintain patient confidentiality and have knowledge and understanding of privacy principles.

environment for making timely and informed tactical and strategic decisions and maximizing both the value of care and services provided. They provide accurate, timely, and useful information for making decisions based on evidence to help
deliver appropriate patient care. As subject matter experts, staff also provides expertise in analyzing and interpreting data and presenting and educating the corporation on this information.
