About Us
The Nutrition Discovery Labs (ND Labs) at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) conducts cutting-edge research on the physiological and environmental factors that drive appetite and energy imbalances. ND Labs is dedicated to providing a strong scientific foundation for developing effective dietary, physical activity, and environmental strategies aimed at preventing and managing overeating, ultimately promoting healthier, more balanced lives. Our team is currently conducting a randomized controlled trial examining the effects of milk with varying fat and protein content on cognition, gastrointestinal hormone responses, mood, and glycemic response in children ages 9–14.
Summary
This is a part-time causal position on weekend mornings (Saturday, Sunday or both dependent on study session scheduling). We are seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) with experience working in pediatric populations to support data collection for this study. The RN will be responsible for performing venipuncture, ensuring participant safety and comfort, and maintaining high standards of clinical and ethical practice in line with research protocols. The RN will be regularly available for weekend morning sessions.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Perform venipuncture (fitting an indwelling catheter into the arm of participants) and collect blood samples from children ages 9–14 according to study protocols and CNO standards of practice.
- Monitor participants' well-being before, during, and after blood draws.
- Maintain accurate medical and research records in compliance with confidentiality requirements.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with children, parents/guardians, and research staff.
- Follow infection prevention and control practices.
- Support the research team (research assistants and volunteers) during study visits with proper blood collection and storage.
- Uphold principles of confidentiality, safety, ethics, and participant dignity.
Supervision Received:
- The research nurse will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator (Dr. Nick Bellissimo) and the research coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) and registered in good standing (no restrictions) with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Clinical/research experience in a pediatric nursing setting or with pediatric populations
- Experienced with phlebotomy, including indwelling catheters in pediatric populations
- Current CPR / BCLS certification
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with children and families
- Strong organization and time management skills and ability to work in a team environment
Compensation:
- $55.00 per hour (CDN)
- Length of shifts will range between 3 – 6 hours
- Guaranteed 3-hours minimum for every shift
- Hourly wage is flexible to be commensurate with experience

- Mid January, 2026
