POSITION DESCRIPTION – Global Systems Administrator

POSITION OVERVIEW

Reports to:
Manager, Global Enterprise Infrastructure

Location: Vancouver (Hybrid)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Global Systems administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining the IT infrastructure and systems of an organization on a global scale. You will work to ensure the smooth operation, security, and availability of the company's computer systems, networks, servers, and associated software applications across multiple locations worldwide.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Global Systems Administrator will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • System Administration: Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems, and applications in a global hybrid environment (on-premises and cloud). This includes managing user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
  • Security and Compliance: Implement and enforce security protocols, policies, and procedures to protect the organization's systems and data. Stay updated on the latest security threats and vulnerabilities and take appropriate measures to mitigate risks. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Troubleshooting and Support: Respond to and resolve system and network-related issues reported by users or automated monitoring tools. Provide technical support and guidance to users across different locations globally.
  • Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies to ensure the availability and integrity of critical systems and data. Plan and conduct regular tests of disaster recovery procedures.
  • System Performance Optimization: Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to enhance overall efficiency. Conduct capacity planning to anticipate and meet future resource requirements.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, network topologies, and procedures. Generate reports on system performance, uptime, and security incidents.
  • Collaboration and Project Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and execute IT projects related to system upgrades, migrations, and deployments. Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets.
  • Vendor Management: Liaise with external vendors and service providers to procure hardware, software licenses, and support services. Evaluate vendor proposals and ensure service level agreements are met.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop the IT Analyst, including setting priorities, reviewing work quality and providing constructive feedback
  • Coordinate team workflows to ensure timely completion of system maintenance, support requests, and project deliverables.
  • Support training and professional development of the IT Analyst to build technical capabilities, problem-solving skills, and understanding of global IT operations.
  • Serve as the first point of escalation for complex technical issues, system outages, and process-related queries.
  • Stay Updated: Keep up to date with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in global systems administration. Continuously enhance skills and knowledge through self-study, training, and professional development opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 5–8 years of experience in systems administration or related IT roles is required.
  • Strong expertise in system administration, network management, and IT infrastructure. Proficiency with operating systems such as Windows, Linux, or Unix. Familiarity with virtualization technologies, cloud platforms, and storage systems is a plus.
  • Relevant certifications include CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), or VMware Certified Professional (VCP).
  • Proficiency in core system administration tasks including server installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Experience managing Entra ID, M365, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Intune and Group Policy.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and firewall administration. Familiarity with security best practices, encryption protocols, and vulnerability assessment tools.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex systems and network issues efficiently. Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to coordinate projects and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to evaluate system performance, identify improvement opportunities, and make informed decisions on system upgrades and enhancements.
  • Passion for continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies, tools, and security threats in a rapidly evolving IT landscape.
  • Effective multitasking and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a global environment supporting systems across multiple time zones.

The salary range for this position is
$88,000 to $121,000
. The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies, taking into consideration internal equity. Qualified candidates with the required qualifications and relevant experience can expect an offer between the minimum and around the midpoint of the range. Progression toward the higher end of the range is based on higher qualifications and experience or demonstrated performance in the role.
