This is professional City planning work of moderate complexity involving the application of specialized knowledge in the investigation and analysis of matters relating to planning studies and planning programs. An incumbent assembles and interprets demographic, economic, and physical research data as they apply to the of development plans, neighbourhood plans, land use policy, and general planning programs; analyzes and interprets data pertaining to municipal planning; analyses, administers and coordinates approval of a wide variety of development applications; analyses, develops and implements various administrative planning policies with respect to existing and/or new legislation relative to the Zoning By-Law, including the Strata Titles Act, the Local Government Act; Community Charter; Liquor Control Licensing Act; and, Cannabis Control and Licencing Act. Liaises with other departments, citizens' groups and standing committees; prepares final reports for submission to Council Performs related work as required. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include Master's Degree in Planning or related discipline with some experience in the planning profession, membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia or Canadian Institute of Planners is desirable; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of principles, practices and objectives of urban and regional planning. Considerable knowledge of governmental and legal procedures for Municipal planning developments and of the City's by-laws relative to planning activities. Considerable knowledge of the theory and practices of land use planning and regulations. Sound knowledge of economics, Municipal finance and sociology as applied to urban planning. Sound knowledge of the current literature, trends and developments in the areas of specialization. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with a wide range of internal and external contacts. Ability to perform moderately complex technical research and prepare reports thereon.
This is a Temporary Full Time position until November 2, 2026.
